Ah! This is a conversational piece. It is hard to tell, but I think that I have cracked it after considering whether a man would wear such a patterned shirt. The face could be either sex. Then I observed halfway down from the neck but no clues even with enlarging the photo, but the clue is that a lady's shirt is buttoned up with right over left as this one is, so I would say that that the person is a lady.
