I’ve been using TurboTax for years. I used their Deluxe version until I finally retired. I now use their free online version with no problem. Federal and state efiling are free. My issue is that the fed processing and refund should be in 45 days or less. It’s been two months and I’m still waiting for my refund.

We got ours in a week. Time to call to see what’s going on.

I just got my tax returns done and sent in. Yesterday, I paid H&R Block for their software, but it was worthless. It kept running me around in circles, and I got nowhere after a few frustrating hours. I've been using H&R for half a dozen years, but the 2020 version is horrible. Today, I found FreeTaxUSA and I got the Fed and State done, easily, step-by-step.

Fortunately, H&R offers a 60-day money-back guaranty, so I'll see if that's any better than their software.

I know - a lot of you are going to tell me how much you like H&R and how easy it is to use. Good for you!

Jerry you are 100% correct. I have had nothing but problems with H&R Block this year. Their support staff is useless if you can ever get to talk to somebody. I was on hold for 20 to 30 min only to get disconnected. Called back a second time waited another 20 min spoke to a person for 45 to 50 min and got disconnected for a second time. I figured she would call back WRONG. Three days later after I had filled a rather negative review of my experience I got a call back. I explained the error message to him and he had never heard of this problem. His explanation was I had a corrupted file and would have to do the entire return over. This would not have been a bid deal had it been a simple return, but it was not we had spent hours on the return.
I found it odd that he had never had this problem, when you can google it and the same error message is explained, but nothing that helped me.
We were lucky enough to have printed a copy of the return before we e-filed. This was the second return which we e-filed did not show up at IRS, so we just mailed the return.
I think I will be trying somethin different next year.

I have always used a professional, mine are way to complicated, always to trust anything else. My tax lady (Mrs. James) retired from the IRS. Never a problem.

I have the same problem. I look at a K-1 and wonder "where the devil do I start?". There is something very wrong with a system that is so convoluted that the average person can't do their own taxes without having to pay for a program or a CPA to do it for them. It costs me between $400-$500/yr to have my taxes done when a Flat tax would eliminate all the tax time angst. KISS is always the best way to do things and it would eliminate a good portion of the IRS if the tax code was simplified. It is ludicrous the way Congress has sliced and diced earned and unearned income. If there was a tax on everything we bought then everyone would be paying their fair share as people who spent more would pay more.

I have used H & R for years and Jerry I could not agree more about this years program. It is horrible and they can and have done better in the past. They really need to look hard and long at what they have done.

I've been using TaxAct for many many years. I just look at and answer all the questions rather than guessing what forms I need.

I'm a long time FreeTaxUSA user. Moved from TX to NC this fall and used their state filing for the first time. Both were super easy.

I have used H&R Block for many years - I agree that 2020 sucks.
When I put in the stimulus money it keeps treating it as income. Tried so many time to communicate never could get through.

Used Block's software and had a question re their interpretation of the tax law. Called them and they said go to an office for a clarification. I did and they said to call the help line again. This happened twice until I forced the little guy in the office to make a decision. I used his advise, it was wrong and I got a bill from the IRS. Tried to get help from Block and they ignored me and the problem, both on the phone and in the office. I never got any call backs nor help of any kind.

I’ve always used TaxAct.com and never had problems. Turbo Tax continually increases their rates

I used Intuit TurboTax myself. Filled in the forms easily and had to wait a couple days, had them done before the IRS would accept returns. Filed on Feb 15, got my refund in my account Feb 23. Easy, quick and the best part it was free.

I normally do my own and have so since the mid 70s. When I was stationed in Japan my unit sent me to a school that IRS taught. This was so I could help people in my own unit with their taxes. Since then I've had no problems. As for Hawaii State income tax I only have to file on my rental income and that I have my Accountant do as there are multiple taxes which are involved.
