Is there a LIMIT on the GB size of a Memory Card that can be on a Nikon D3300 Crop Sensor Camera.??

I'm guessing the D3300 uses FAT32, but I included exFAT just in case.

- If the cards are formatted in FAT32, the max size is 2 TB per partition and single file size of 4GB.

- If the cards are formatted exFAT, the theoretical max size is 128 Pib per partition and single file size of 16 exbibytes.

Wow, that even Information is over my head, is there a simple answer to my original question?
Have no idea what fat32 or wxFat is in my Photography language

Given the age of the camera, it can be hard to get a clean answer because the manual was printed before newer and larger model SD cards were released. A camera that can support 16GB should be able to handle 32GB, but maybe be a bit hesitant about buying 64GB and more hesitant for 128GB, certainly before trying to find some official details from Nikon directly.

I bought a Sandisk 64gb card, so I would have good storage for RAW and RAW+JPEG IMAGES, so is a 128gb card unusable with my Nikon D3300?

LOL, sorry about that. I would go with what Paul (CHG_Canon) posted. It's probably what you were looking for.

When dealing with RAW and 24MP sensors, you have a few general rules of thumb. You can put about 1000 raw files onto a 32GB card. If you do both RAW and large JPEG to the same card, something like 500 of each, maybe 600 images.

SD cards are not intended for long-term storage. If you consider how long you might be shooting before you can offload your images to permanent storage, that gives a sense of how many and how large cards you need. I'd suggest 3 to 5 32GB cards or the same number of 64GB cards. If you get lazy about offloading your images and a card fails, that could be several days of lost images if they all were on a single 64GB card.

Since no one who has responded knows the answer (neither do I), I suggest you ask Nikon, by phone or email.

Page 310 of the Reference Manual gives you all the gory details for "approved cards". It boils down to up to 32 GB SDHC card, and up to 128 GB SDXC card. There are other factors, including memory card brand name.
Page 95 in the Users Manual shows what appears to be the same chart.
Both manuals are available as free downloads if you don't have them.

Do you actually expect that the Nikon D3300 operating FW has the memory management ability to read that much storage ? Don’t have the actual specs handy, but got some serious doubt.

Edit:
Nikon indicates the D3300 is UHS-1 compliant, recommending cards up to 128. In general, when a card is bigger than a camera can handle the card will work just fine, but some of its capacity will not ever get used. Since storage is cheap, you could simply try a 256, and someday, when you finally pass 128 you will find out if Nikon was being accurate or overly cautious. Nothing bad would occur, just a “card full” message.

Realistically, you might be putting that 256 card into an upgrade replacement body before it ever gets to 128 in the D3300 ... unless this is mainly your video camera. FWIW, in my own 53MP camera shooting raw+jpg I have “only” 64GB storage ... for stills. High MP cameras aren’t really intended as video cameras. When the cards get full I just reformat them.

Obviously I’m not archiving anything on camera cards. I hope the same goes for you. You should get waaay over 5,000 frames of raw+jpg between reformats using a 128 in a D3300. For jpg-only, 128 can seem to never fill up.

My wife has a D3300. She has 64gb card in it and it works well. She has a 128,gb but never has used it yet. I can confirm a 64gb works in a D3300 with the latest firmware update from some time ago.

LOL, seriously? I never made the presumption that it would. I simply stated the technical limits of two possible file systems, FAT32 being the most likely candidate. Any other assumptions you would like to impose on my response?

Understand now. I’d thought you were addressing the OP’s actual question. IIRC nobody asked about the ultimate limits of cards unrelated to actual use.

Theoretical only for exFAT, SDXC in it's current state is 2TB. Which was the first bullet point.

I've used 16 & 32 GB in my old D90's without issue (they preceed your model by a few years) and no issues with newer D7100/D7200 (16/32/64GB), but I've stopped at 64GB max because of the "all my egg's in one basket" potential for failure - even though I've never had a card failure in all my years with memory cards, card reader fail - yes, card slot in camera fail - 1 fail (good thing it has two). Use good quality fast cards, should not be any issues. Edit, I see by the time I typed and posted the answers have arrived.
