I am thinking of enlarging this shot to a 12x14 but the hubby isn't sure about the snow on the right side .... do you think this would look good enlarged to that size or does the snow distract from the squirrel to much? This shot is cropped so I do have options to redo the crop. I have included the original.....how would you crop it?

Thanks
Cindy

I'm with you Cindy, sorry hubby I think the snow sets the mood of the shot.

I like the close look. You might want to consider bringing in the left and top sides just slightly, on the left just inside the bump on the limb on the left. Try to align his eye with the vertical center line. I think you'll get a bit more 'balance' for a comparison idea before submitting a version to print.

I like it. But now, my eyes are drawn to the shadows in the upper right corner. Similar to the twig you removed from the snow on the right, clone these away to create a consistent stretch of snow and not distraction away from his eye. There's a slight bit of shadow too along the right edge, directly across from the squirrel. Full screen, they grab my eyes less than in the thumbnail view, maybe not as important.

I see what you mean by the shadow on the snow now that you pointed it out, fixed that and lighted just the edge of the right as well.

Thanks for the help!

I think your crop is a good one with CHG_CANON suggestions considered. I would also consider getting rid of the two items behind the squirrel...to help keep the viewer's eye on the squirrel...

My cropping of the image should not be taken as my suggestion on the crop...I only wanted to focus on the suggested change. I did the deletion rather quickly so you will want to spend a bit more time dealing with the fur.

Cindy, your cropped photo does not appear to have an aspect ratio of 14:12. I assume that is the opening of the mat or frame. Crop to a common aspect ratio unless you can do a custom mount. I always did custom mounts until I got too lazy.

As for the picture itself, sure it would have been better without the snow and ice on the right. However, the picture is still good and if you like it as you should, forget about your husband and do hang it up. That is really the way to appreciate photos.

Crop off most of the snow on the right and make it a vertical.

This idea is a good one. I'd clone out the distractions to the right of the squirrel (in addition to the ones noted on the left side).

Cindy, your cropped photo does not appear to have ... (show quote)

Thanks!

And it's an odd size frame but the local frame shop guy is a very good friend of mine....so whenever I take in something like this....I always get some eye rolls but he works his magic and makes it look perfect

I am trying to find something other than elk, rams, deer and bears to hang on the wall and just thought this one was kinda cute.
