A fellow that I worked with did something similar. He copied a $20-bill (front side only) and cut it out and folded it. He dropped it on the floor by his office door and he would watch people as they walked by to see if they noticed it and if they would ask if it was his or if they would simply walk on by with it. For what it's worth, quite a few chose to pick it up and walk on by.

I have seen a note on a photocopier at my office (previous employer I believe, 5+ years back) indicating that attempting to photocopy currency would cause the copier to lock itself down, requiring a reset from a service tech which would of course involve admin people. I never did get up enough nerve to try it out to see if they were bluffing to scare people into compliance :)

Interesting thing to learn. I suppose you could have your fun with Monopoly money.

While I had a $100 bill in my hand I thought about making a copy of the front and have a little fun with the grandkids and some friends. I scanned the bill on my EpsonV550 and waited for a few seconds to view the screen. What came up was "YOU CANNOT COPY A BANK NOTE". Ok...smart machine! Took out my iphone and took a picture to treat it as a photo. Downloaded into my folder for pictures and told my printer to print (Cannon Pro100). Across my screen came the message -"YOU CANNOT PRINT A BANKNOTE". Oh well...so much for that idea. I only wanted to print the front. Smart machines these days.
While I had a $100 bill in my hand I thought about... (show quote)

I had a 20+ year career working for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, actually working within the walls/fences and in contact with inmates daily. During that career, I heard of a contract employee who used a very high quality copy machine and made several copies of some US money. He then passed it and was caught for counterfeiting. He ended up without a contract and spent some time in a Federal Prison. Not a good idea to even "try" copying money. On the upside, it is good to know that copy machines now have the ability to recognize currency and not copy it.

P.S. glad you did not copy it and then get a charge of counterfeiting placed against you. Federal prisons are not really nice places to live.

When I started the farm we sold our wares on a farm stand. At that time the idea of Community Supported Agriculture was beginning to take hold. Basically you give the farm some money and they pay you back in vegetables, meat, eggs, fiber, or whatever their product is. You usually get more product than you would get by spending an equivalent amount of money on the farm stand.

I looked into the origins of this concept and found that some of the earliest examples were just farms printing money. The money was only good at their farm stand and had no intrinsic monetary value.

Currently there are a couple different models of CSA: (1) Farm Bucks as above; (2) A farm share (or half share or whatever) for which you get a box of stuff weekly or at some regular interval; (3) a farm credit card (or credit account). Model (2) has variations: (a) you get whatever the farm has a lot of in your box; or (b) you can pick what you want up to a given price.

The basic idea is that you give the farm a low interest loan for startup costs. (For a vegetable farm you are spending money on production for a half a year or so and getting income for maybe the other half of the year with a gap in between for maintenance and winter).

Only the high level important types get to Club Fed. Trust me you wouldn't even want to spend much time at Club Fed either.
