I need a second camera body and my decision is around Nikon D610 , big screen , light weight , I read very few comments on this camera that supersedees D600 .
I like to have some comments on it and I can choose an alternative too , used of course .

What are you shooting with now?
Are you used to the pro bodies?
I see you had a D4.
The layouts on the D6xx and 7xx (Not the D700) are different and it would drive me bonkers to switch to one as a backup. Nothing against them, I’ve used 750 and liked it, but using them will not be as intuitive.

I loved my 600, then replaced by Nikon as a settlement ( but had absolutely no issues with 600) to the 610. Wonderful camera and I truly loved it. Moved up to 750 for additional features while 610 was my backup. Sold it with over 100k actuations. You won’t be sorry if you get a good one.

My main body is D4S and I’m extremely satisfied with it , my decision comes out since I do not want change always the lens on only one body , street photos , landscapes and some of sport shooting are my preferites D750 used is more expensive my dream is a D3S but it is very far from my allowance , so D620 perhaps it is the better choice

The D600 got a bad rap with only a handful of copies that had the shutter/sensor oil issue. Mine was serviced at no charge and still going strong. The D600 and D610 are great values but I think Nikon sells the D610 as well as the D750 for close to the same price. With the D750 you get higher ISO range and a flippy screen. Never heard anyone complain about any of these models but if it were me I'd get the D750 (refurbished are fine) and keep my D600 for a second camera.

There is no question that the D610 is a very serviceable camera. I owned one for about a week before its small size and consumer user interface came close to driving me nuts. My other camera at the time was a D300s with a Nikon battery grip.

You will have to decide what to do, but I would suggest that you consider trying to find a nice, low-mileage D810 instead. It will cost a little bit more, but will be much more closely aligned with what I understand to be your primary camera in terms of both operation and ergonomics, especially if you add a battery grip.

My primary is a 610 that I purchased soon after they were introduced. It's traveled all over with us. It suits my needs altho I admit to occasionally suffering GAS for something in the 800 series.

My backup is a D7000. One good thing is that the controls are similar and the battery is the same.

A good used one would be an ideal backup. IMHO

I've had a D610 for a couple of weeks and have no complaints even though I really wanted a D750.

MPB.com has one right now for $604 (exactly what I paid for one on eBay that was in mint condition). MPB rates it as excellent and the shutter count is a ridiculous 1779 clicks.

If you want it you'll have to act quick as they have been selling very quickly there. I had one picked out but had to wait a few days for the stimulus payment and someone grabbed it...so I had to go to eBay. Good luck.

Their D810s start at about $1200 in excellent condition. They do have a D800 (also 36mp) in like new condition with a shutter count of only 679 clicks for $894. Here is the link:

And here is the D610 (24 mp) that I mentioned earlier for $604 with 1779 clicks in excellent:

Both have USA serial numbers.

The D610 doesn't have a great autofocus module. It's not good in low light. If you can, go for the D750. Its autofocus module is superior. The AF in the D610 is sensitive down to -1EV. The D4s is sensitive down to -2EV. The D750 is sensitive down to -3EV. The autofocus module in the D750 is an updated version of the one in the D4s. I have a D750. I really like that camera.
