I ordered something twice a while back from EBAY and almost immediately got a message that I had ordered the same item once already. I did have to go back and spend some time figuring out how to cancel an order but I was successful in the end. I would think that any online store would have a routine catching duplicate orders before shipping. If duplicate orders are placed within a certain time frame chances are it is an error somewhere. If the buyer wanted more than one there is usually a quantity box available where that would be expressed.

All that being said B&H is doing more harm in disputing this mixup than any monetary gain is worth. IMHO B&H should have immediately either offered to accept a no charge return and a refund. Standing their ground and instead "looking into it" is a crappy way to run a railroad.

How would this software be programmed to do this "dupe" catching? I'm asking, because I would love to see that code and how it distinguishes between legitimate consecutive orders and the occasional network burp.

Additionally, since we are adding things to the scenario, how do we know B&H is "standing their ground"? All OP said is he checked his account, then went into very vague "they" statements. If "they" means the entire company, "they" are on holidays and aren't there most likely.

I know it has already been said, but I, too, am a big fan of B & H. After many orders, I have nothing but good to say about them. They have done things for me a couple of times that went beyond good service!

Condemnation without all the facts is not a good idea.

I'm betting that this situation is satisfactorily resolved.

I recently bought a 12TB hard drive on line from B&H photo video and as I always do I printed off an invoice before closing the window. A few days later a new and additional charge was posted to my account from B&H. When I investigated B&H had re-invoiced and charged me, again, $150 over what I had originally paid for my hard drive affectively charging me more than double my original purchase. When I went onto their website to look at my orders they had created a whole new order and invoice and my order and invoice wasn't there. Now they claim I placed another order - which I didn't. I take a lot of photos but 24TB worth - really.

They refuse to rectify this situation. I've filed a BBB complaint and am working with my Visa card services to try and get my money back. I have done plenty of business with them over the years but this is the last time I buy anything from them. The time and stress this has cause me is not work it. I will keep my business with Adorama and my local camera outfitters from now on.

The BBB has no teeth - filing a complaint does nothing for your case, but it can make you feel better I suppose. Sounds like someone made a mistake, and there is a distinct possibility it may not have been B&H. Do you now have two drives in hand? Does the second order have the same date as the original? I suspect you are not providing the whole story - B&H has a very fair return policy - full refund if returned 30 days from purchase date, no reason needed, subject to a few conditions which don't seem to apply in your situation.

When VISA investigates and they find a second order you'll need to reconsider your rant, and maybe pony up the cost of return shipping, on the chance that you double ordered.

I think there is more to this story than has been told. Just my opinion. Too many good things said about B&H. Something is off here.

I agree.

It is doubtful that B&H is at fault. If they are, they will correct it. Let us know when the dust settles.

The "they" he spoke of is B&H. Also, Adorama. Both are closed from March 26 through April 4, re-opening April 5.

This information is on the home pages of their websites.

Is this an April's fool post, or just a foolish post? Refused to rectify seems like awfully strong language for a business closed over the holiday that has a rather liberal return policy, if in fact, a second item arrives that just needs to be returned for refund.

The only issue I have with B and H is the fact that they use fedex. The company however is top notch
FedEx has screwed up several times.

When you place an order, they immediately follow up with an email order confirmation. Did you get 2?
Also as noted did you receive two drives? If so the correct thing to do is return one, not just demand the money.

By the way, what 12tb drive did you find for 150 bucks? Seems very low

This does not at all sound like the B&H I have done business with over the years. Sorry, but this just does not sound right.

I recently bought a Nikon P950 from B&H, after using for a couple of days, the zoom lens started making noise, but still took great photos. I contacted them about a return and refund. They said they would be closing for Passover and there would be no one to receive the return. They said to keep it and use it as much as I could and return it after April 5 for a full refund or exchange. This was beyond the 30 day return policy. I thought that was more than fair. I have never had a problem with them. Will be returning the camera April 5th.
