You know what? I am dead. I have been dead for 104 for years and counting.

I died in the East of France. I was in a trench. Shells blew it up and that was it. When I came out of it I was the sole survivor. I was rushed to the rear where nothing was found wrong with me other than not being to sleep.

I was sent back to the front. Folks there took my presence as a good omen until they kept dying and I kept surviving. Soon I was an outcast.

I knew something was seriously wrong with me when I realized I did not need to eat either.

I was sent home with so many others. At my parent's farm animals panicked when I was close to them. The old dog who was my friend growled and tried to attack me. He even bit me but... I did not bleed and the wound disappeared almost immediately.

My mother who saw that signed herself murmuring 'devil'. Two months later I was an outcast again. I left.

I do not have any 'superpower'. I just live without sustenance, I do not need to sleep. My hair does not grow. I just need clothes and to move every so often so no one knows I am not getting old. I look like a twenty-year-old.

I am frozen in death, alive. I am bored.

I am not sure what made me you think of the last book from Camus as his is about growing up. This book was never finished yet published... Maybe your association lies there? Frozen in time?

I for one consider Camus a class act -- As an American, his work forced me to realize how much France was bled white during those terrible years 1914-1918
