I just carry a simple set of jumper cables in each car I have. There’s always someone around to give you a lift.
One of my vehicle batteries is in the floorboard under the passenger seat and another is in the drivers side wheel well.

Three weeks ago, I drove my son to get his first Covid shot. A 2 1/2 hour trip turned into 3 1/2 hours for some reason, thanks to Mapquest and GPS. For yesterday's trip, I decided to take the Interstate - longer, but less chance of getting lost. Great trip.

My son was back in the car at 1:00 PM. I pushed the starter button - nothing. Totally dead. I had left the headlights on. Heavy rain on the way there. Since I hadn't opened the car door, it didn't alert me to that situation. I waited a while for the battery to recover, but it didn't recover enough. I have road service with Good Sam - popular with RV owners. I called them, and they said it would be 60 - 70 minutes. Long story short, they mistakenly canceled the order, and no one arrived till 5:00 PM. It took less than a minute to get the car running.

As soon as I got home, I went to YouTube and looked up reviews of battery jumpers. Project Farm did two good reviews, and other reviewed some, as well. I'm torn between the Tacklife ($90) and Autowiz ($130). The Autowiz is not a battery. It's a capacitor. Even if the car battery is down to 5V, it will charge the capacitor in 3 - 10 minutes and start the car. The Tacklife would have to be charged at regular intervals to keep the battery alive.

Jerry, you shop Sam’s Club, so go on their site and order the Stanley unit. Beside being a battery booster it has a pump for tire inflation and an LED light in case you need to change a tire at night I’ve had one for about five years and it holds a charge really well. I use it often to inflate bike tires.

My wife & I went out for a contactless pickup and I was a victim of my own negligence (left on the lights while waiting). Always have jumper cables so I was able to engage a gentleman to assist. As he was pulling up next to us, another man walked over and asked if I minded letting him try try to jump it. He had a battery jumper in his hand. In less than 30 seconds we were up and running. He told me he bought it on QVC over a year ago, had only used it once, but hadn't recharged it at all since he bought it. It was a Halo Volt. Back home, it took me about 4-5 minutes to unload the groceries and before I got my coat off my wife told me Amazon would deliver our Halo in 2 days. It was one of those rare moments I was smart enough not to say 'Thank you' and be silent.

I have one of these high discharge units in each car. They also have a LED light and the ability to use them as emergency power charging sources for cell phones via USB plugs.

Jerry, My first thought is you should carry a set of jumper cables in the car. Many will give you a jump if you have the cables. I had an electric jump device that had to be charged ever month or so and hated it. Forget to charge it and it is useless. I now have one that you keep plugged in and it has a light to show that it is fully charged. These devices are only good if you take them with you and you did not know you would leave the lights on so having it at home would be of no good. Get the jumper cables first then look for the jump start device.

Open hood dangle jumper cables from it and someone will help, at least out west they will.

Jerry I am amazed of that little storm cloud that follows you around.. Do you remember that little fellow in the Little Abner comics, whom had that Storm cloud following Him.. Wishing you better luck on down the road.. If you ever discover what has caused this , please let me know so I don"t make the same mistake.. thank you...

I carry jumper cables in both cars. Have for years. Belong to AAA, but it's usually easier to ask somebody for a jump than to wait for roadside service.

While in high school, I drove an older car with a 6 volt electrical system. Unfortunately one cell of the battery went bad and it often would not start, but it was a manual transmission so I could fairly easily get it started with a little push or downhill coast. After replacing the battery I was aware of needing a back up system so bought a set of jumper cables. To this day, I carry a set in my car. They have come in handy on numerous occasions, for myself and others. I have advised my sons to carry them also.

I opted for the TACKLIFE, and received it today. The battery was at 85%, so it's now being charged.

My only concern between the two was the fact that capacitors have to be reformed if not used for a period of time. On my electronic flashes, it's only a matter of a few pops periodically, but I just wonder about how to discharge the capacitor on one of the Autowizzes.

In 1990 I started out for Utah from Chicago in my new Mitsubishi Eclipse. I don't remember where I spent the first night but the next morning I stopped in North Platte, Nebraska for breakfast. When I got back in the car the starter made no sound when I tried starting the car. Mitsubishi would foot the tow bill to the nearest dealership which was in Lincoln, Nebraska 225 miles away but East of North Platte and I was heading West. The nearest dealership West was in Denver, Colorado 263 miles away. I got the car towed to Denver with me paying the tow for just the added mileage. I spent my second night in Denver and the next morning the starter was replaced. All went well after that.

I have used my Halo jump unit several times but not for my own car. I think it's amazing to jump a car with such a little unit.

I recently picked up a nice new set of jumper cables at a second hand store for $12. Cheap, reliable, and most people will allow you to use their battery if you have cables.

A while back I picked up a jump start from WallyWorld, reasonable priced, only have had to use it once, holds it's charge well, some other bells and whistles on it. Good point it is small, had others in the past that contained lead acid batteries, never worked as well as this little one, if you need the brand I'll look for you, Bob.

Thanks, but mine arrives today. Oh, boy! Oh, boy!
