Go get the printer you like, but first, go on google and ciss systems for that print. Cost and refill ink. I use this on a lot of printers. Have for over 10 years. I now have a Canon 1000 I got at B&H it great but I buy 100% of my ink on ebuy, Before I buy a printer I check and see the cost of ink. I go through about 10 to 15 printers a year, I have a photo booth business, it's dead every one has a camera. I was making from $500 to $1,000 3 day weekend.
I print 8 x 10s and 13 x 19s on site. You printing paper Red River paper is best. I hope this will help.

I have two Canon printers. The pro1000 is very good, however cartridges run Bn over $50 each and it has 8. The picks does a good job, but not quite as good as the 1000. BTW Can says the large printers are supposed to be used every day!!

It sounds like you are paying way too much!! I get the value pack for my Canon Pro-10 which includes all 10 cartridges for $134. Individual color cartridges are $14/ea. I sometimes order the black 4/pack for $55 because they are used up faster (includes matte black, photo black, gray, and optimizer) Still, this is an expensive printer to use; but the ink is pigment-based and the prints will last 100+ years and are gorgeous!!!

What other Canon printers do you have?

I have an epson ET 2550 , Ive had it since they came out and I like it.
the only problem was, I let the black ink run out . I had a hell of a time cleaning it to get it working again.
also some high gloss papers slide a bit as the paper comes to an end, the pic is blurry at the very end.
so I just changed papers.

Thank you. I’ve never let that happen and now I’ll make SURE that I never do!!!

You are making a great decision. Tanks will save you huge amounts of money. Just get the best you can afford. I have Canon and Epson. Both work great. The ink tanks in the Epson last 6 months to a year. The ink cartridges in the Canon do not. I will never buy an ink cartridge printer again.

I am considering purchasing a Canon or an Epson printer with ink tanks instead of cartridges. I am not really interested in other brands. Two that I am considering are the Epson ET-2760 ($300) or the Canon PIXMA 6020 ($269). I'm leaning towards the Canon. I've only owned one Epson, years ago and didn't like it. I will use it mostly for office and school documents, scanning documents and photos and the occasional printing of a 4 x 6 picture. I like the idea of refillable tanks to save on the cost of ink. The Canon uses pigment ink for black whereas the Epson uses all dye-based ink. It has to be compatible with Apple computers, iPads and iPhones and also with Android phones. I need double-sided print ability and wireless. I did a search on this site but found nothing recent.

I am open to suggestions and would love to hear from anyone who owns either of these printers.

Epson tank printers cost much more than their cart printer siblings.
However, I have a (now old) Epson ET-4550 that in the first year saved me the cost of the printer for what I would have spent for carts on my HP.
Every 1000 or so pages I have to do a menu-driven head alignment that takes just a few minutes.
Whatever the brand, I will never go back to carts.
Besides, Costco will print and drop-ship your prints much cheaper than I can just make the prints on any printer.

I have the Epson ET 3700 and love it. I’m still on my first set of ink bottles. It’s been well over a year and I print a lot.

Thank you this information and the link. I don’t have a Costco near me.

I found the printers/tanks have only three colors where as my best photograph printers have at least five color cartridges. Big difference.

I have the Epson ET4750 and love it. Got 2 sets of ink with the purchase. Cost 400 Canadian at BestBuy. The ink lasted 2 years for me. Just purchased black ink bottle 30 bucks. Use it for docs, photocopy, scanning. Don’t do a lot of photos. Hope this helps.

I have the ET 4760 and it is a great printer, and very economical in using ink. Likewise I only do a limited amount of photo printing. The photos come out fairly decent but I had to do a bit of tweaking of colors on screen before coming up with prints that looked good in print. Not bad for up to 8x10's in my experience. I haven't tried any 11x14's yet.

I don't own Canon but that might be better than the Epson for photos.

The Epson is a very good all around printer for routine printing, albeit high priced.

Here's my experience if you haven't already made your purchase. I print a LOT, and when my Canon Pixma 4900(?) died about 4 1/2 years ago, I replaced it with a Canon G3200 Mega Tank AIO. After about 3 years of heavy use, it quit due to a "full" ink absorber pad. Rather than chance screwing it up when trying to clean the pad (I couldn't be without a printer for very long), I bought another G3200 and it's still working great. The scanner is good too and the printer is wireless. I have another place I can use the "dead" G3200 and plan to try cleaning the pad. I rarely print photos and this printer is OK, but not great for photos. I figure that the printer paid for itself in about a year, as I was spending about $300 per year on ink cartridges for my previous printer. I'm very happy with it.

I have the older Epson ET-2550. This was one of the first "tank" printers they made. I love it and highly recommend purchasing one like it. Great prints in the smaller size. I've printed a few larger ones and they were wonderful, but not enough large ones to say it is perfect. Have fun NOT changing cartridges. I'll never do that again!
