I am plan to download a trial of Affinity software. I would appreciate a few pros and cons from Hoggers, however, when I search, I only get very old posts (from 2015). I’d appreciate some feedback from experienced Hoggers or links to recent posts.

Thanks in advance.

in the search under advance there should be a check box that is for recent searches

It's still on sale for $25.00. If you use/need to do any raster editing of photos just buy it. It's more than worth the $25.00.

If you download a trial, and take too long in trying it, you may find that this extraordinarily cheap special offer at $25 has ended. It is Serif's contribution to photographers in the pandemic.

What are you using now. It is not as good as Lightroom / Photoshop. But it is still a great program & a incredible bargain. If your into luminosity mask & things like that, you would need to build your own set of macro instructions for it. There are quite a few tutorial videos out there for it also. I use LR6 & move into AP for cloning, object removal &, once in a while some layers work. It is worth the money.

What you get for the special offer of $25 for Affinity is not just a super app - but free updates to boot.
There is no upper limit to what you might end up spending on LR/PS.

I have been using Affinity Photo since 2017. It is a raster editor that will perform some editing on Raw files that are then "developed" to JPEG files were you can perform hundreds of post processing tasks. It does NOT catalog your photos for your like some other programs. I have my own system that works great for me and is not complicated. I have never had a problem down loading Affinity updates and there have been about 20 of them since I signed up. There program includes links to their own tutorials, about 100 of them and there are plenty more by third parties. They have support links that are very helpful. The program itself is setup similar to Photoshop and can process Photoshop and Nik files. I have downloaded it from my account to my laptop as well as my desktop. No additional charge.

In short, for me, it is very convenient, does more that I will ever need, and is always up to date.

I've been using Affinity Photo for more than three years now and haven't paid anything since my initial purchase price. I'm not too satisfied with the RAW editor so I use another program for that then transfer the file as a PSD into Affinity for further editing.

Lots of video's are available if you need in a specific area or tool's use and it's very forgiving as you can return to a given point through the History tab. At the reduced price, it's a steal.

It is brilliant you will not regret getting it. Look for their own tutorials as well as Affinity Revolution who have many YouTube tutorials, free and some paid courses. You buy it and then free upgrades until new whole number version as I understand. Ie. 1.x.x free upgrades until 2.0.

I've been using Affinity Photo since 2015 (version 1.3.5.) Overall the program is excellent, and a steal at the regular price. The Covid-related half price is even better.

The capabilities have been steadily increased with each upgrade, and existing capabilities steadily improved, over time. In particular the Develop Persona (RAW development engine) has improved significantly and, in my opinion, compares favorably with other Photoshop alternatives if you know how to use the program.

All upgrades have been free. There are over 100 free tutorials on their website, lots more available on YouTube, and a users' forum. Both Serif support and the users' forum are very responsive if you have a question or issue. There are also excellent inexpensive online courses you can take to teach you every aspect of the program, step by step.

Photoshop's component ACR does a good job with raw file conversion. Photoshop is a raster editor. Photoshop alternatives -- other raster editors -- either don't do raw file conversion or as a group their raw conversion tools suck. I agree that as a member of that group Affinity Photo sucks less than most.

That does not mean it compares well with good raw conversion software. Even open source free raw converters like RT and DarkTable are more capable tools than AP. There are some basic industry wide minimum expectations for raw file conversion and AP does not meet them -- folks should be informed of that.

I use Capture NX2, NX-D, now NX Studio. For $25, I just purchased the Affinity. There are stuffs that NX Studio does not have like layers...
My stimulus checks are in good uses.

Well, here is my two cents. I spent $660 for my first copy of Photoshop back in 2002. Then I paid about $200 every-other upgrade. If you waited more than two upgrades, you were not entitled to the $200+ price, and had to start over. Okay, having said all that, I used PSCS5 right up to ... 2018 ?, when they switched to the fee based version. Now before I begin waving the flag for Affinity Photo, I want to state, for the record, that I don't blame Adobe for charging a monthly fee. Whenever I'd go into my favorite camera store, I'd always hear other customers say, and I was sickened when I heard, so many of them say "oh, yea, I have it on my computer. But I didn't pay anything for it." Now I'll add this. As many of you may know, I teach college physics. In the past 24 years, I would hear, year after year, from some students who had ... you guessed it "Photoshop in my computer, but I didn't pay anything for it". So, I clearly don't blame Adobe for now requiring a subscription for it. Those who stoled Photoshop spoiled it for the rest of us.

Then, when I purchased a new iMac three years ago, I was able to install my PSCS5 onto it, and it worked perfectly ... until it came time to make a print. The moment I pressed command-P, the software instantly shut down. Soooooo, I had to move on, and Affinity Photo was where I moved to. I have to admit and state here, so far, there is nothing I usually do on PS that I cannot do in Affinity Photo, and that includes all the RAW things I do. So, I highly recommend Affinity Photo, even at their ""expensive price"" of $49.00.
