I have a chance to buy this lens ( Nikon Mount ) packaged with a Tap-in console to fine tune.
I do not totally understand the fine tuning process , so while doing a little reviewing on B&H website reading info for the Tap-in console - BH sells as a separate item for Nikon
the following statement is printed .
*An initial firmware update performed by a Tamron service facility on these lenses is required to enable compatibility with Tamron's TAP-in Console.
this is a packaged "kit" lens, neck strap, 2 scan disks, padded bag for lens.... originally from a online photo shop
So my question is would the initial update already be completed?
& HOW difficult is it to fine lens to camera...... I have D7200 & D850 - & may use lens on both bodies?
Thanks for your advice
if it new call Tamron and you send camera and lens to them and they fine tune it under warranty one time. Call tamrron.
I have the G2 150-600 and I need more practice to see. Fine tuning is for fixing if it front or back focusing. Take a metal tape measure place it at 45 degrees and one point auto focus on a # and see where focus is. I don't know anything of a firm ware up date ask them at Tameron
Thank you .. will call TAMRON
John
I purchased one a while ago, before the pandemic. It did not require a firmware update to work with the Tap-In console which came with it. There are videos on the calibration process on YouTube.
not sure what % of these lenes need calibration brand new.. I did see you tube on testing with a metal ruler and one point focus
I had to send my Tamron 100-400 with my D850 back to Tamron twice before the focus was right- on.
If you use the built in fine tune ability of the D850 you can get all the figures needed in about 20 min.
The figures for the D850 will be fine on the D7200
It seems a bit much to me to buy a new lens and then immediately send it and your camera off to a factory for fine tuning. I own this lens and the tap-in console that came with it. When I got the lens I put it on my D500 and took some shots. I was happy with them and have been happy with them ever since. The tap-in console has never come out of its box. I have nothing against fine tuning a lens but I wouldn't do it if I didn't feel it was needed. I have posted many examples of shots taken with this lens attached to my D500 in the Photo Gallery. Feel free to take a look. You can decide for yourself if you think I would see vast improvement with a fine tuned camera/lens combo.

how did you test the focus to check accuracy?
I saw a guy used a metal tape measure at a 45 degree angle at different distances. He used one point focus on a # then saw what # was actually in focus. On my last trip to B&H I bought a focus chart to experiment with
Thanks all of you gat to get the lens on camera. And see how it works. And watch the you tubes ....
If you are buying from a reputable dealer, it should be up to date. If it is second hand, updating with the tap-in (if possible - check with manufacturer) is easy.
I did not bother to "calibrate" the lens for the following reason: I use live view and the digital magnification with this lens. In live view there is no need for calibration since the LCD screen sees exactly what the photo will see, unlike an optical viewfinder which may be off.
PH thanks for the info
I m going to check if firmware is up to current status
& May try the live view
If you call Tameron with your serial #, they will tell you if you need update. Just did it today when I exchanged my 10-24 for different one and they said I was good
Ahhhh that is perfect
Thank you !!
