I did need to put the bulbs on it, then just wait for mother nature to complete the job.

Huh? I don't understand. Those bulbs on the tree do not light up. At night the only source of light would be the sodium light in the back ground.
If I recall correctly, I used a fill flash to help light up the tree.

I think it's warm looking color coming from the lamp contrasted with the deep snow that imparts the cold feeling.
