Imagine my surprise--a swimming bittern! I'd never seen one swim before. I included a pic of its green fingered feet. It was on a near bank and swam across the canal--15 ft or so. I seen them fly across but never before swim across.

Doesn't surprise me. A GBH with a broken wing can swim across a pond just as well as a duck. Ask any one of the six of us trying to rescue it. Lol.

Seen it on a tv show once. the photographer on the show was surprised & happy because he never seen it before either. Nice catch.

Yeah. Frustrating and comical at the same time. Eventually, it was captured and an animal control officer brought it to a local rehab center. I don't know the fate of it. You can't visit and they won't tell you anything if you call. Probably best.

This was last fall. It was surviving by swimming to an island at night. But in a few weeks that pond would freeze. And we all know how that was going to end. Hopefully we prevented that.
