I make thumb drives of photos and videos. I have adapters for both my phone and tablet which enable me to play the drives on them; however the space is limited.
Also, my phone and tablet are Android and I have Google on my computer and all 3 are synced.
I think Dropbox could work for you.

First of all on Apple all the way.
1. I have a ton of images on my iMac that my wife wants to be able to see on her phone and laptop. I was trying to use Google Photos to share but it was always a struggle as it often would not upload an image (jpeg) and I couldn’t figure out why. I also looked at Amazon Pictures but honestly, it is very confusing to use and has a very small limit on videos.
2. Way too many images to put up on any hosting sites without having to get a mortgage on my house!
3. I have gone old school and downloaded the images to a thumb drive which she can put in her laptop but that doesn’t do anything for her phone.
4. I've thought of using a NAS drive but I am not sure that will even work?

Any help would be appreciated but hold off the snarky replies please.

Just use Apple's Photos and stay within their limits for Sharing.
One last....if you want to share with someone who does not have an Apple ID, then make the album 'public' and only share the link with the people that you want.

For family members that all have Apple phones, Macs or IPads, ICloud is so easy and automatic. 99 cents per month for 50 GB or $2.99 for 200. That’s a LOT of JPEGs, even at high quality. We also use Google drive to share across platforms with users that are on Android, etc.. 15GB free storage, an easy interface, and you can control who has access to what. I use it often to share sports photos for team members and their families where I have no idea as to their platform.

From Mac to a lap top, why can't you put them on a flash drive, then she can put them on her lap top.

shared albums count against your iCloud storage so not an option. I have over 55K images in Photos and and 500k total. While I don’t want to share all of those I do want to share a bunch. I stopped using Google Photos (which never let me do raw image storage anyway). I am an Amazon Prime member so I have been trying to use Amazon Photos but it has a 5GB limit on videos and then stops uploading photos as well. Does Raw as well as jpeg, png and tiff. The problem with it is this a end of life issue that when I die (74 now) I want my family to be able to see images online and to do that with most solutions they have to pay at least $120 (cost of Prime and also SmugMug which I am looking at right now even though it doesn’t store raw images without increased cost)

I am hoping in the 2 years since I posted this someone has a solution?

Thanks in advance,

Extra Icloud storage is $2.99/month for 200GB - would that hold your images?

Actually yes.
First, I don't automatically upload iPhone photos to iCloud.
2nd, I download my photos to CP1. Organize and edit those that I choose to share with others.
3rd, I export my RAW edited photos using a 'Web View' preset into large .jpg files.
4th, I import these into Photos. These files are now in my Photos Library.
Now this is the key.
I have standard albums that I share with certain people. And I create special albums for others.
I 'upload' the selected photos to the Shared Album. I do not let people 'post' to my album.
Once uploaded, I double check the Shared Album to make sure it is how I want it to appear. I also allow a 'public website' to be created that I may share with non-Apple users.
When you invite people to view/and or download from a Shared Album, the jpgs are in the 'Cloud'.
Now, I go back to my Library and select all the photos I imported and uploaded to the Cloud.
I then delete them.
Don't worry, the corresponding jpgs in the Cloud are unaffected. However, the Photos Library no longer is taken up with the storage of these files.
Believe it or not, this is an Apple 'hack' to avoid limitations.
Not only have I confirmed this with Apple; but I have hundreds of albums over the years with untold amount of GBs, and have never been confronted with a restriction.
Hope this helps.

Easy. Since you're Apple, use Photos app. Create a shared album, and invite them to share. Free.

"Create a shared album

In the Photos app on your Mac, select the photos and video clips you want to share.

Click the Share button in the toolbar and choose Shared Albums, then click New Shared Album.

Type a name for the shared album, then type the email addresses of the people you want to share the album with.

If you want subscribers to be able to view the shared album from an iPhone or iPad, be sure to use the email addresses they use to sign in with their Apple ID.

Click Create.

Your invitees are sent an email asking them to subscribe to your shared album."

That’s exactly what we have. My storage is 99 cents a month.

Not even close. Just the photos is 1.8TB so even if I made the images middle size Jpg’s still too expensive. But the big issue is when I am gone they will not have good quality images.

Well, you could always put them in a service like Backblaze, designate them as read only and share the login and PW with your family members - just a thought. Not endorsing Backblaze, but they are less expensive for large volumes than the major cloud providers which I prefer. And if you really want to archive raw/hi res files for the future, you can’t do better than Amazon S3 Glacier deep archive at $1/TB/month.

Personally, I use Amazon S3 infrequent access for all my files and images at $10/TB/month

If you use Microsoft 365 you could load them to OneDrive and share the link.

You can send photos to your wife’s Mac device using AirDrop.
If you want to share a lot of videos and images send them to her or others using “WeTransfer”. It’s free up to 2gb.

I’ve been using backblaze since they started but as far as I know you have no way to access the data directly so they couldn’t see images. It is a great backup site and a critical part of my backup strategy but not for actively viewing.

You mean they can’t download the file given the login and PW, or they don’t know how to view it once downloaded, or don’t want to download and just view the bucket contents with file explorer?
