I really haven't been paying attention. Just looked at Notepad++ and it's version 6.3.3. It's located in Program Files (x86) so I assume it's 32 bit. The file dates range from 2012 to 2019.
I don't use it much for anything other than text. I think I started using it because Notepad wouldn't handle large text files. Just been carrying it along through the years as my systems changed.
Used to use Win7 but now it's all Win10.
Yea, in the x86 directory is 32-bit. When notepad first came out it did have a small page (character) limit. Wordpad accommodated larger files then. I won't get Win 10 (famous last words) until the 7 boxes break. Might be close with the laptop. Sure wish Toshiba still made consumer laptops!!!
The current version of Notepad++ is v7.9.3.
Just found the ReadMe file for Spider Pad, from
1997. A college kid wrote it then, forget what I paid him for it (shareware), but it's been a
GREAT run! I forget what year he quit supporting it. He made it freeware and provided a key to activate it past the trial period.
BTW - I really like the vertical markers in Komodo for the PHP braces!

Been using PYCharm for Python and it has vertical markers for the indents. Haven't tried any other Python editors.
I used indents in Delphi 5 (Object Oriented Pascal) because it helped me keep track of where I was, although indenting was not necessary for the compiler.

Correct, indenting and braces alignment is a thing for humans.
MOST of the time it helps me keep things somewhat organized.
I just have to stick to using spaces
or tabs, NOT both in a page.....

Except Python, that language must have been created by wizards and demons uses indentation as part of the syntax

Yes, it’s bitten me several times but it forces me to write more readable code.

I think we have all been bitten by it.
And yes, it does force readability for those that wrote "visually" sloppy code.
A long time ago I had a friend, when we were working on the guts/software for our Color Computers, do something in 6809E assembly. I asked him why he didn't put comments in his code.
He quickly replied, with a smirk, "Why, it's self documenting."
I still laugh...
