John, The Detroit Zoo was on my summer travel list but the Covid issue in Michigan ended the trip. HOPEFULLY, your officials will allow things to be open this summer - The Dream Cruise and the Zoo.

Thank you very much, Dalek. Combining those two would be a nice package. Hopefully both come off. Opening the zoo will occur gradually and it's already started but with limited attendance that requires going to the website and requesting tickets. That practice may be in place for a while. Be sure to see the Penguin exhibit, tigers, arctic ring of life and the wolves. Many others too.

Thank you very much, Delderby. Your partially correct in the assessment of zoo animals. That is an issue with predator animals in captivity, but not with prey animals who just need grass. Predators have a more mentally and physically complex life. Good zoos, and ours is one, work hard to have enrichment activity for them both in the design of the habitat and activities that tap into their natural behavior. But you can't totally duplicate the wild. For captive cats, these guys have extremely good with about 1.3 acres of treed and open uneven land, a flowing stream, waterfall and pond. Amur tigers like water. But still it's a challenge. Don't equate the facial expression with a humans. Cats have a downturned mouth that makes them look rather sad all the time.
Thank you very much, Delderby. Your partially cor... (show quote)

Thanks - perhaps a zoo is the lesser of two evils for tigers - poaching and trapping these animals has become big business. Keep safe, Del.

Love your shots. The last one certainly would make me glad there was glass or a moat between those teeth and me.

Thanks for commenting, cdayton. I agree with you in that animals that can survive in the wild should be there for a full natural life. However these guys were born in captivity and would not survive in the wild. This is not a gage. It is a 1.3 acre forested habitat with a flowing stream and pond (Amur tigers like water) and for having to live in a zoo they have it made. There are only about 500 in the wild so the species is highly threatened.

Beautiful animals! I sort of agree about caged animals, but if they are in a good habitat, the good zoos do for endangered species is marvelous!
