I am trying to use the touchscreen with Lightroom Classic on my Lenovo laptop. It does some things by touch but when I try to use brushes and move my finger or stylus over photo I get a list of things vs. the brush.

Yesterday I learned about "tablet mode" and have tried that. Same result.

Looked online to no avail, including the Lightroom Queen.

Suggestions?

I have a Dell Touchscreen laptop. In lightroom classic, my finger does the same thing on using a brush. My screen is a higher priced option that is Windows 10 pen ready. I bought a BAMBOO pen that works similar to the Wacom tablet and I can draw on screen with the pen in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. It is a 4k screen that added to the cost of the tablet a lot, but has a beautiful picture. I compared the screen in Best Buy with a photo I took at the zoo and saw detail I had never seen in the shot before. It sold me to upgrade. That said, I think my next computer will be a desktop with a larger screen.

I bought a stylus to use with the laptop. It works the same as my finger; i.e. it does not work with the brush.

I have a Wacom tablet I never use. I can try its pen but don't think it will work. I'll give it a try.

So the bamboo pen works with the Lightroom brush in develop mode?

Yes, but the screen has to be a special one. A "regular" touchscreen will not work with a pen. I'm afraid your screen is not that type. They have 4K screen a pen will work with and 4K screens a pen will not work with.

I would guess your best bet is use the Wacom.

I installed the Wacom driver and tested it. Yes, it works fine.

But the touch screen of the laptop doesn't work with it attached.

I really want to use the laptop touchscreen so I don't have to bring the tablet along and because the tablet is awkward to work with the laptop on my lap.

So far my searching on the web suggests this problem has existed for years (probably since laptops with touchscreens became the norm) and Adobe chooses to not fix it. Or Microsoft. Not sure whose problem it is.

Lenovo makes an active pen for their touch screen laptops and devices. The pens run about $30.00 - $35.00 average on Amazon. They appear to only work on certain models of laptop so I would suggest verifying your laptop model and checking the pens' compatibility list before ordering. It appears to do what you're wanting to do. I'm looking into ordering a pen for my HP Envy X360 for the same reasons you're describing.

I doubt it will work...but I will check it out. I suspect the problem is in Lightroom. Bit if the pen App makes it look like a mouse it should work.

I did get a $10 stylus. It works with everything but Lightroom.

None of them list my model. Prices vary widely.

For my next try I’ve ordered a wireless mouse. $10. It will work as good as the Wacom and not need the awkward Wacom and wire.

Well, maybe not fully the same as Wacom as it doesn’t have pressure sensitivity. But I’ve never used that anyway.

I have determined that the stylus I did buy works the same as my finger...which is mostly useless with Lightroom.

Has your touch pad quit working on your laptop. I can do general brush adjustments with mine and rarely break out the pen. You may be doing a higher level of detail work than I generally do.

Touchpad works fine. I was hoping for ability to do more detail with stylus. Guess not.
