It really was “ duck” tape not “ duct” tape

A simple misuse of words. Duct tape was, and is, an adhesive backed metal foil used for sealing high temperature ductwork and fittings, and small holes in airplanes.

Some companies are making a very poor grade of duct tape that is very thin with poor strength and does not hold up at all for exterior use. I suppose to compete in price with competitors they put out an inferior product. When I want a real good "duct tape" I reach for Gorilla Tape. Their glue is really good too.

"Duck tape" is recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary as having been in use since 1899;[2] "duct tape" (described conservatively as "perhaps an alteration of earlier duck tape") since 1965.[3]

The first material called "duck tape" was long strips of plain non-adhesive cotton duck cloth used in making shoes stronger, for decoration on clothing, and for wrapping steel cables or electrical conductors to protect them from corrosion or wear."

Don’t know about that but their home is in Avon Ohio and the factory is called the “World Headquarters of Duck Tape”.

Are you from Avon. So am I. If so, small world.

I thought the tape was duck tape because of its use to seal ammo boxed used on
World War II amphibious boats called duck boats.

Their initial invention was called “duck tape,” as it proved waterproof. After the war, it became widely used by civilians, most often to seal ductwork. So much so, that it was renamed as Duct Tape and rebranded in silver to match modern heating and air systems.

Standard duct tape is not recommended for HVAC ductwork today because over time it will dry out, come loose and leak. There is specific type that adheres better, and is not affected by extreme heat/cold cycles. It is shinier more sticky and also much more expensive. Sorry I’m unable to recall the name, haven’t bought any for a few years.

Our A/C has an insulated hose about 6-8 inches in diameter. I'm sure the codes have changed from the late '40s

No self respecting HVAC installer uses the “duct/duck” tape you mention. It will not last. They use an aluminum looking specialty tape for sealing ductwork.

This is now that was then.

I read an article about a Vet who had a dog that wouldn't eat, barely drank, had constipation but seemed OK otherwise and Happy. Third visit with no reaction to the meds they did a scan and the stomach had a large solid mass in it. Surgery, removed the mass, it was a hard lump with some food scraps etc. embedded in it. But what in He** was it????

Then the dog's owner suddenly remembered "I dropped a tube of Gorilla Glue in my work shop and the dog chewed it up just leaving the tube on the floor. No glue." Duh!

Dog not only still happy but now could eat, drink and poop normally.

Yep, invented by a woman to seal ammo boxes in WW2.

Her bosses didn't think much of her idea so she wrote FDR who liked it and got the military involved. From Johnson & Johnson:
