Thanks. I’ll look again. When I last looked they wanted $200 used, $249 new, and a bunch of scammers asking over $300.

If the manual adapter works as I hope with the 200-500 it should hold me till they come out with the Z 200-600...if they price it reasonably.

Got to thinking the manual one won’t work at all with the new lenses where the focus ring is electronic. But I think the focus ring in manual focus is mechanical on the 200-500. That will be the first thing I check.

They are bids. All the sold used ones about $200.

I think I broke it. At least put a slow leak in it. There is no longer a D610 in my future. Instead I have purchased the $15 adapter which will mostly reside on the 200-500, as described above...

The adapter came today. It works as expected. i.e. I use M mode and set shutter to 1/1000. fstop stays at 5.6, which is what I want for animals. Auto ISO controls exposure. I use focus peaking to assist manual focus. VR off but doesn’t matter because it won’t work with no power to lens.

Initial images of quail through window good considering ISO 400.

This won’t work with “fly by wire” focus on new lenses. I’ve only seen that on Z lenses anyway.

It might work to change fstop on AF lenses with fstop ring. But you will either have to adjust fstop after focusing or focus at set fstop.

Actually the quail is at ISO 4000, and the image is taken through a dual pane window. I could have gone down to 1/500 handheld or 1/250 on tripod, or walked out the door, to get ISO down. Don’t want under 1/250 because birds fidget.

Of course if I use on Z6 I get IBIS.

MBP came through with offer for Z24-70. As noted I cancelled D610. But they have used FTZ for $179. So I’ll go for one as part payment.

The problem being Nikon hasn’t released the long zooms or the macros for Z mount yet. Hopefully later this year.

Yep, hopefully, because the 105 VR G is rather mediocre vs the 3rd party options.

Actually most agree it is by far the best one out there. You must not have one.

But the EVF is a great help on this. It will show actual exposure while focusing where an optical viewfinder will get dark as you increase fstop.

Just looking for alternate opinions on this.

I decided a year plus ago to sell my D800 and get a Z6 with 24-70. Sold a few F mount lenses with or after, such as AF 50 mm and 28-300. Bought the 24-200 last fall and decided the 24-70 ought to go so it is at MPB for sale.

Also got the Z50 with two lens kit (16-50 and 50-250) last fall. Impressed by it so gave my D5600 and 18-300 to my daughter-in-law. I have 10-24 which I can use with it with FTZ but generally prefer FX for wide angle so won’t use it much. It plus FTZ is big and heavy.

Decided I’m going to take only the Z6 on major upcoming trip involving air travel. But needed a wide angle because 16-35 + FTZ too large and heavy. So now have Z 14-30, which is nice and will do the job for the trip. So with it I no longer need the 16-35, so it is at Adorama for sale.

Decided yesterday I needed to try some images with the F mount Macro 105 on the Z6, which required the FTZ. The FTZ was on the 200-500 attached to Z50 for birds. It was a multi step process to get the switch done. I get annoyed by fussing.

While looking at KEH site for status on my Z 24-70 I noted a like new D610 could be had for about $500. Subtract the $300+ they’ll give for the 24-700 it can be had for a little over $200. And my Z6 batteries work with it.

Adorama has my 16-35 but hasn’t gotten back to me yet on final price. It will be about $500. But I can tell them no thanks and they’ll ship it back.

Thoughts on choices.

PS: I am inclined to be frugal but money isn’t an issue here. I always compare my photography hobby to past endeavors like boats and ATVs...and don’t come close.

I liked your thinking RE boats and ATVs. When my wife looks at me askance when a new lens shows up on the doorstep, I remind her that many guys buy boats. With respect to ATVs, I owned a Yamaha dealership years ago and frankly, I hate to reflect back to those days. When compared to that, photography is a very inexpensive avocation.

Uh huh. The 105 can’t pass a test with the answers written on its sleeve. I quit testing it cuz it’s so depressing. Instead I’ve engaged a Zen Master to fathom why it makes such excellent photos and I’ve never seen a Zen Master get that frustrated before. I just hope she won’t commit hari knishes. She said it might be the VR. “If you can achieve stillness, all possibilities are possible”. How Zen can you get !?!!?

People complain about the price of cameras. then the price of a good lens.
My boat was $$$$$$ way too many dollars I could have bought hundreds of cameras.
The new hobby is motorhome across the USA. Yea big bucks again.

SO I may complain about paying $3000 for a z7ii its nothing compared to buying a boat or RV .

as for your question, sorry can't help you.
