My Mom told us tales about the depression. Just making the mortgage on a half section was difficult at times. However, they always were able to put food on the table. The thing she didn't like was that her school dresses were made from feed sacks. I don't know if anybody is old enough to remember, but at that time, feed (it may have been chicken feed) came in colorful cloth, not burlap.
