I have a mirrorless, micro 4/3s. I traded in all my beloved Nikon gear and went cold turkey mirrorless. I have never looked back or regretted my decision. I use my camera more, I think I’m getting better results, or maybe because practice makes better. If I were to buy another camera, which I did as an upgrade, it would definitely be mirrorless. BTW, I own an Olympus OMD m5 Mark III.

Part of the reason I rarely post here anymore and if I do, it's through a PM

Nice photo. Would of loved to seen the download version.

Thanks for the positive reply. The only reason I posted the image was because of the talking heads so common on this site. They talk a good game, saying how one camera is better than another, but never post an image as proof of their statement. And if they do post an image, it is a stock image someone else took, not their own.
Again, the R5 and R6 are great camera's. But there are a lot of GREAT mirrorless camera's on the current market and most of them deliver great images. To say one brand has jumped ahead of another makes no common sense. Give me most brands of mirrorless camera's and I will deliver great images.
And my comments are directed mostly at Capn_Dave. Who claims the Canon R5 and R6 is much better than any other brand.
Most do not get it, it is more about the person pressing the shutter than the camera. Talking heads arguing over which brand is best just do not get it. Get educated first, then pick your camera, not the other way around.
Again, thanks for you positive comment, I appreciate it. I post daily on Facebook for my chicks up North so they have something to look forward to with their morning coffee.

The EOS R5 will change how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life.

I just purchased a R5 after 8 years with a 5D3. I skipped the 5D4. I feel that I get better images from the R5. I'm going to hang onto the 5D3 as my backup camera - but will probably sell that and by another Canon R series. I'm waiting to see what the next R will be.
I find the autofocus much superior. And it's a little smaller and lighter. I crop a lot in my photos - so the larger files help a lot. One downside is that I had to upgrade my laptop as I kept maxing out the ram - but that was 8 years old as well.
I went with the 24 to 105 F4 lens. I tested it side by side with the 24 to 70 F2.8 in the store - and did not see much difference. I decided to save some $ to buy the R series 70 to 200 2.8. I currently have the adapter ring for my other Canon lenses.
As others state - you have to consider what you use the camera for. I do commercial work for paying clients - so I want to deliver the best images that I can.

I currently own a Canon EOS 6d. I have researched both Rs.

I wanted to get input from people who have switched to these mirrorless cameras, or stayed with the DSLR camera that they have. If they bought another camera, would they buy a mirrorless camera or stay with DSLR?

Thanks.

Barb
I had the Canon 7D, 6D and I now have a 5DIV and an entry-level RP.
Each body was a marked improvement over the other.
When I stuck my toe into the "mirrorless pond" with the Canon RP I found that the features and the eye focusing capability is head and shoulders better than with the 5DIV.
My Canon RP will even focus (and pretty well track) a person's eye and even the eyes of a character on my TV.
The same Canon "L" glass that I used on my 7D and 6D works great on my Canon RP when I use the Canon adapter.
My Canon RP when used with my current EF and RF "L" glass and reviews (links below) of the Canon R5 are the reasons that I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a Canon R5 and more RF glass.
Edit: In Body Stabilization is also a MAJOR factor in my decision.

I hope that this helps.
Best wishes on your decision.

Barb, I have mirrorless (digital and film) and I have a SLRs (digital and film). They both have a place in my photo hobby. I wouldn’t say one or the other is better. I will say that the mirrorless has opened the door to using a variety of legacy lenses for fun at very little cost. If you have the desire to try mirrorless, go for it. Keep your SLR as you’ll find you still enjoy using it.

It really depends on what you do:

Sports action?
Wildlife or birds in flight?
Landscapes and architecture?
People and events?
Macro copy work or astrophotography?
Video/film, documentaries/news, or TV commercials?

Every camera is better for some uses than for others... Without knowing what you do with your camera, answers are likely off-mark.

decrepit? Please explain this slur.

Some people think your not a man unless one carries the biggest, heaviest, and most costly system available rather than only the equipment that meets one's photographic needs. If I had a digital back for my 35 pounds of Hasselblad, and felt it would do better for the shooting situation than my 7 pound Olympus system, I would not hesitate to carry the 35 pounds. But many of my travels required a system that fit my 6"x11"x12" and the 7 pounds of Olympus system much better than my LowePro Magnum 35 bag size Hasselblad system. Should I be a "man" and always carry my Hasselblad? Or should I be a smart "decrepit" man and take the lighter Olympus tool? And will I be even more "decrepit" if I have to take the photo with my Galaxy S20 because neither my Olympus or Hasselblad were available? Some people fail to realize "a tool is a tool is a tool" and "any port in the storm" apply no matter what one's age. They just feel they are "bad ass" by always carrying the biggest, heaviest, and most costly photographic system and forget about "brain required".

ROTFFLMAO!

This is so true. "My lens is bigger than yours" is just a mark of insecurity. Gear does not make photographs. People USE gear to make photographs. What you use is up to you and your judgment of the circumstances and situations you encounter.

Personally, I'd rather use the Oly instead of the 'blad, most of the time. But there are exceptions. I keep an old Bronica ETRSi system around just for exceptions to my Lumix GH4 kit. And I rent something when needed.

Yes - but we need to allow for the fact that "some people" are stupid, and I do mean stupid!

Soon you will be a decrepit old man. What will you do then?
