I am thinking about buying a Canon R5 or R6.
I currently own a Canon EOS 6d. I have researched both Rs.

I wanted to get input from people who have switched to these mirrorless cameras, or stayed with the DSLR camera that they have. If they bought another camera, would they buy a mirrorless camera or stay with DSLR?

Thanks.

I had a 6D. Good camera, but, the auto-focus of the R is way, way better. Even my 7DII and 5DIV couldn't compare, which is one of the reasons why I sold both of them not long after getting my R. By all accounts the auto-focus of the R5, and presumably the R6, is even better. There are a number of other features that I like with the R, but, the auto-focus is the big one. The in-body stabilization of the R5, especially when combined with a stabilized lens, also appears to be outstanding. I'm just waiting for B&H to get more stock so that I can order an R5.

CHG_CANON usually have very good information, however this time, altho correct the information is not complete. I am a wildlife photographer, and I was fortunate to get to try out both the R5 and the R6, thank you Canon. I really never was a fan of mirrorless until I tried them. old Electronic View Finders lagged after you pushed the shutter button and many times you would miss the shot. Not with these two cameras. The EVF doesn't black out when shooting it stays lit The auto focus is amazing on both these cameras, better than anything else I have ever used Canon jumped ahead of everybody with these two beasts. Sorry Sony. As for lenses with the adapter you can use all of your old Canon lenses and they will be as sharp as they will allow. Internal stabilization coupled with lens stabilization I can hand hold an eight hundred mm lens and get sharp focus. I ended up buying the R6. Only 20 mp but the sensor is reported to be the same amazing sensor as the 1DX and it has the same processor to boot. I usually advocate to invest in glass not cameras. Being a wildlife photographer I normally use the Canon 7D and the 7D MKll. Here is a full frame camera with a magnesium frame that focuses on the eye of wildlife and keeps focus, shoots up to 20 Frames Per Second, has great video, Both the R5 and R6 are amazing machines.

My Sony a9 gives me everything I have ever wanted in a mirrorless camera. On my Sony 200-600 and 600 f4 I have nailed everything I have aimed my Sony at. I am sure the R5 and R6 preform. But in the hands of competent photographers, Sony and Canon are really good. To say one is ahead of another brand shows jumping to quick conclusions without thorough understanding of the capabilities of each brand.
Below is a point and shoot grab shot at 300 yards of an Osprey with catch. Sony a9, 200-600mm.
I would love to compare what you get with your R5 and R6. Please post an image you have shot with the R5 and R6 and then we can compare. Thanks

Check out Jeff Cable’s blog... he normally shoots the high end DSLRs but has been testing the R5/6 for a good while. He is very impressed...

THAT, is one of the most Ridiculous

When you know you need a mirrorless camera, you have the knowledge to succeed.

R5-R6 is the best bang for the buck also.

Barb I bought a Canon R and use the 6D for back up. That works well for me!

I own and use the Canon 6D. It produces very good photographs paired with the Sigma 100-400mm lens. So far, I've seen no persuasive information that rates image quality of the mirrorless cameras over the DSLR cameras.

I grant that the smaller and lighter mirrorless cameras offer a size reduction that may prove desirable to users. This physical fact, however, falls short of prompting me to chuck my DSLR gear for a mirrorless camera system.

The Canon marketing campaign will not snow me. My very good images from my DSLRs sober me in this matter.

It would seem that you are one of those who live in the past, and refuse to move with the times, still using a phone with a pull out aerial, Win 3.1 and a CRT monitor.

"CHG CANON" make sense. I was looking also and I use Canon and Tamron lenses. Canon seems be no problem with the lens converter but Tamron could be so look at what you have, what you want to accomplish and is it worth it? For me I decided no at this time.

Are you letting a mirror hold you back from the photographer you were meant to be?
