I am still getting 120 roll film processed by Fujifilm at one of two Walmart Superstores within 20 miles of home. It's done on their "send out only" program often for less than $20 or less, cut and sleeved. 10 day turnaround. They call..... I go and pick it up from the store where I dropped it off. Then scan for negatives. No sweat!!!

My two Jobo processors help me avoid that situation.

How do you know about hipsters from Brooklyn? (true statement though)

This is really timely because I am looking for a 50mm Distagon for my moth eaten Hasselblad which I have decided to resurrect. I always liked the square format and using something with limited shots, you tend to compose and check settings more carefully. And it doesn't mean I can't keep something digital in my pocket!

Are you shooting with the collodion process or are you old fogies still using daguerreotype (no one will ever look at those.)

And, weirdo nostalgists who want great details and great challenge ! ( 4X5 and up)

IMO, messing with film only makes sense for 6X7 cm and larger - tho I really do like the squareishness of 6X6 .

Film is still popular. I use film and follow other users via Face Book etc. I do not have darkroom capability so I use mostly online labs. Seems film use is very popular in Europe. If you decide to not use film you can send me your Hasselblad. Medium format is amazing! You can buy film online and there is an amazing variety of film available. I do have a Camera store sort of near me but is downtown area 25 miles from me. It seems to cost me a lot because I keep coming home with a used camera.

Can I ask what online lab you suggest. I want very inexpensive. We found 2 old rolls of film in a couple of AE-1 Canons that I had stashed away. I have a feeling these rolls are not something I shot but just in case they are my family wants me to get it developed.

Look at the pricing at TheDarkRoom.com. You can find cheaper, maybe at a local drugstore or bigbox. But, if they scan the files really small and don't give you the negatives back, and then something really important is on these rolls, you'll be wishing you'd gone with TheDarkRoom.com to begin with.

We have cars but some people still enjoy riding a horse. We have cameras but some people still enjoy painting a picture. Digital photography seems to keep trying to emulate the "film look." For that film look, I just use film!

Your first 10,000 images are your worst. Thank goodness they're now all digital.

That's only true if you are not learning anything from your mistakes, repeating them over and over again without making any serious attempt to analyze and correct them.

I collect antique cameras and still have the last 35mm camera (Pentax) that I used prior to digital photography. I have not shot film in at least 20 years, but if film and developing were more readily available, I would be tempted to use some of the old cameras displayed in my home study.

Early on in the development of digital photography, when professional digital cameras were well out of my price range, I was already getting clients wanting photos in digital format for the internet or digital printing. So I got a Nikon film scanner and the first version of Photoshop. I found it difficult to get great quality from the scanned negs, and when I could afford my first pro quality digital camera (a Nikon D2X) I was amazed at how much better the photos were than scanning film. So I have no interest in shooting film again just to scan it. It's just extra time and expense and the quality isn't as good. The only way film would make sense to me is if I set up a darkroom again or paid for chemical printing, and I have no interest in doing that. When I shot film I preferred B&W because I didn't feel I had as much control with color printing. I still believe B&W silver darkroom prints have a quality that digital B&W printing can't match, but with digital I prefer shooting color since I do have such great control over it.

Would this description apply to those still watching Video Tapes and listening to Cassettes or Records? Just asking. I still have my collections of these.
