Fuji XT4 vs Canon m

I have a Canon FF which is quite heavy. About 2 years ago I bought an M50 for the lighter weight. Do I wait for the rumored M7 and hope Canon does not discontinue the m series, or bite the bullet and get an XT 4? I don't like the M6 II. Is Fuji have broad enough support for the long term or is it a niche camera? Are the Fuji lenses significantly better than the native M lenses? Hope there are some Fuji users to reply to this. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Rumors, that I believe may be now published fact, is the Canon has retired the EOS M. If you move to a cropped body without the letters C-A-N-O-N, no one will think less of you.

I have a Canon FF and a number of Canon L series lenses, and like you, the weight can an issue (a 5D4, grip and a 70-200 f2.8 weighs close to 6 lbs.). Not that I’m ready to give up on the advantages of the FF Canon system, BUT for a lighter weight system, I started with Fuji after it was recommended by a friend who is a working pro and shoots FF Nikon for work, but Fuji the rest of the time. I can tell you that (a) the better Fuji XF lenses are easily the equal of Canon’s L series, both in IQ and rugged construction (and similar in price), (b) for equivalent performance (lens FL and aperture), the Fuji is 1/2 the weight (c) although the FF has the edge in noise beyond ISO 6400, in most cases the results are indistinguishable, and (d) the X-T4 with IBIS is a world class camera. In short, I love the Fuji. The controls are all on top, very much like a classic SLR, so you rarely need to access the menu, and it has every feature you might want. More and more, I’m reaching for the Fuji. Not turfing my FF - it’s an old friend, but all my expendable camera $ are going for more Fuji lenses, and I may eventually trade up my X-T2 for the X-T4

Since your Canon M and none of your M lenses work on any other Canon body your free...or not($) to move to a different system. Or you can stay with Canon and it's familiar menus and get the R which on B&H is only $100 more. The R has the same sensor as the Canon 5D IV.

What type of photos do you shoot? If you decide to go with Fuji, I believe they might have a even smaller camera that might satisfy your needs & at a lower price.

Canon FF with L glass has been my main system for years, but a few years ago I started looking for a smaller, lighter ILC for travel. After considerable research, I went to a camera shop to get my hands on a Fuji XT-2. I left the store with it! It is so much fun to shoot! All the frequently used functions are at your fingertips. The XF glass is up to par with most L glass. Even the kit lens is a great lens...definitely not your normal “kit” lens. I find myself using Fuji (I now have an XT-3 and XT-4) for much more than travel, even some of my more professional work. It is true that FF handles higher ISOs a bit better, but the Fuji noise cleans up pretty well in post. I suspect I will switch to Fuji totally when I no longer feel the need for a FF system.

100% agree, I have the XT-3 and will pick it up before my Sony a7rII the Fuji seams to be built for the serious photographers.

The Canon RP is pretty full featured and very light. I had one for a short time. For me the lenses are where much of the weight is. Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath for the M7. From everything I can glean, the M series is gone. The rumored price for the M7 was 1599. You can get a Canon RP starting at 899.00.

I have an old fuji X-T10 and have thought of moving up to Full Frame Canon but just happy with the results. The only down side is, it would be nice to have a higher ISO. The X-T10 has a limit of 6400/

Hi Johnny,
now i have more Sony's than you,LOL. I love my Sony's and nikon's.

I do grab my Sony more than my Nikon, I like how the flash tilt's up on the A 6000 and the NEX 6.
Stay warm and safe.

I believe the rumour of Canon dropping the m range of cameras is just a rumour and nothing more. Why would a company drop a camera range that sells extremely well through out Asia and one of the highest selling cameras in japan, certainly not in a pandemic which is hampering camera sales.
I have an m50 and use ef and efs lenses on it via my Canon m to ef converter.
