Need recommendations — replaced my 2011 Mac desktop computer with 2019 Mac that I just set up 3 weeks ago. All went well until I hooked up my 2012 Canon PIXMA 5320 printer. I’ve been told that my printer is not compatible with the new BIG SUR Mac operating system so... I need to buy a new printer. I’ve always used Canon but am looking around for others as well and sure could use some expert recommendations. I would prefer to stay under $200 but am open to options.
I do a lot of cropping and editing of photos and then print. Quality of photo a must. I also do spreadsheets with color and other odds and ends. But a lot of photos.
My daughter loves her Epson 3710 with the super size tanks, but she rarely does photos on it. I like the realibility of my previous Canon printers too. But just need to know what others use to print great photos.
I looked at previous threads for printers in this group but most all posts were from 2012 to 2015, so these won’t help with 2021 products.
‘Much thanks....

Not sure you can get a photo printer in that price range. Most of what is available is an office multifunction printer usually with only three colors + black. Not exactly photo quality.

Maybe, if you need to keep in that price range:

I recently bought a printer for everyday office use, but when researching the printers I also took an interest in photo quality printers, Epson and Canon seem to have the best reviews for photo print quality, in the price range you are trying to stay in Epson does seem to have the edge, of course a $200 printer will not produce the same quality as a $600 or $700 printer but I think that as long as you are not overly discriminating you can produce acceptable prints with a printer that will fit your budget. In your price range I would caution that you will have some difficulty in finding anything that will print wider than 8.5 inches.

When my HP photo printer finally died I decided to try the Canon PIXMA TS9520. Had it for about 3 months now and am pleased with it.

The cannon Ts8230 is a very good multi use photo printer for less than 200.00. 6 ink carts. Ink refills available from Precision Colors. Have one myself. Works very well.

Have you tried calling Canon Support? Maybe there is an update driver for your printer. Good luck.

Look to Epson, Depending on the print size, you might be able to get a good deal. I have the SureColor P800, which produces up to 17x22" prints. Excellent quality and I don't use it every day, so it stays unclogged. You probably won't want a printer that size. Check out open box specials at Adorama and B&H.

Great advice!
Always check for driver updates before spending hard-earned $$$

This is a 4 color printer, not what is normally considered Photo Quality which would suggest a 6 to 8 color printer.

Call B&H 800-947-7785 for Mac printers. I use PCs. As much printing you do you need the super size tanks you will save money on ink BIG TIME. I buy all my ink on ebay no head acks. I been printing for over 10 years all types of printers, Canon is one I use. I like big format 13 x 19 now using Canon pro 100 for over a year, great service. Old paper will muss up printers, get paper from companies that sell lots of it like Red River Paper, check them out a lot of help too.

If you are looking for a photo printer you may want one with more ink cartridges and several blacks as somme Canon and Epson. Also what size do you print?
A quality printer is not cheep but some sales come up from time to time.
Again the printer is the final unit to make your end product (picture). So we will be back into the quality of paper and shoes ink.

My Canon MG6120 wouldn't work with my iMac's latest OS until I went to their web site and downloaded the newest drivers. Works fine, now, except it sucks down the ink cartridges like rainwater going down a storm drain.

I looked into the "Eco Tanks" and while they use far less ink and can be manually refilled from a bottle, they only use 3 colors plus black and won't make anywhere near as good a print as my Canon that has 5 colors plus black. So be careful about print quality versus ink requirements.

I have the same printer and am very happy with photos. Since it uses a grey cartridge plus dye and pigment black it's a cut above average.
