Cold here in the Puget Sound region. The Hummers feed more often, especially in the evening. The two shots posted here were taken very dark, almost 5 PM PST. Temperature was about 31 F. The brave little guys must fuel up before the long cold night. Needed a flash-SB700 mounted on my D500, 500pF attached. Minimal crops-the birds were very close. 1/1600, f 8, ISO 5000. No EC or filters-handheld! Trying different camera settings for different looks. More tests coming! Luv how we can see some gold flakes in the hummer's feathers! Beautiful birds!
The other shot is Holly in the cold. Trying some desaturation techniques. The leaves should be bright green this time of year. Note the water drop. D850, Micro-Nikkor 105 G f 2.8. 1/100, f6.3, ISO 560. Saw this while chasing a woodpecker pecking its way around our property! Must set up a blind to get a capture of that damn woodpecker!
Download works well!
Enjoy!
Excellent work, Tim, creative last shot!

Thanx for viewing. I have stopped photographing the hummers for now. They need to feed in this very cold weather.
Very nice shots! I didn't realize they tolerated the cold that well.

Thanx for viewing. We put up two extra feeders. I change every three days regardless to keep it fresh.
Nice, Tim! Please don't forget the feeders, they will be dead in a day without flower back up.

Thanx! Yes! This freezing time of year the feeders can go a few days before needing cleaning and fresh food.
