Born Jan. 23rd, 1910. Joining him, is the famous jazz violinist Stéphane Grappelli.

Are you familiar with Pat Metheny?

Certainly. While his style is not among my favorites guitarists, I am reasonably familiar with him. Listened to him many years ago.

Would you equate him with Kenny G? I know someone who does.

Might be a bit similar in style of play. Of course Kenny G played saxophone, while Metheny played guitar. So, difficult to compare.
Just my opinion.

The way he could make those fantastic runs up and down the fretboard when he had such limited use of his left hand (badly burned in a caravan fire in 1928) shows what a truly great artist and musician he was.

There is no comparison. Pat Metheny uses voices, piano, trumpet, accordion and a wide range of sounds in his music. There is more depth. Kenny G is pretty much one dimensional. But to say that Kenny G and Pat Metheny are even SOMEWHAT comparable is absurd.

I'm more than a bit confused by your inquiry. I posted a video about Django Rinehart and you asked if I had heard of Pat Metheny. You then asked if I thought he was similar to Kenny G. Totally unrelated to my post. Finally, you responded to your own question. In my opinion, more than a bit weird.

Django is still one of my favorites - thanks for the link. We have a number of cassette tapes we listen to frequently. And one of the very best concerts I've seen was Stephane Grappelli when he played at the Troy Music Hall - he was in his eighties and still hot. He did one number on the piano too.

Both are among my favorites too!

No one played like Django. Very aggressive style. Only comparable guitarist was Wes Montgomery. He played similar riffs but still had a very different style and sound. Wes was my favorite.

Hi Mark. Thanks. A few years ago I heard the Django Festival All Stars on one of the smaller side stages at the Newport Jazz Festival. I've got pix somewhere that I should post. They swung really hard and had some of the best individual musicianship of any group I've seen there in the many years I've been going. Keeping Reinhardt's vision alive too. Well worth your time if the time ever comes when we can go to live shows again. https://djangofestivalallstars.com/about
