I currently have a Canoscan 8600F flatbed scanner. When Canon quit supporting its software I went Vuescan and have had trouble off and on since. Since updating to MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 all I get is a blank page and slow operation. The scanner continues to run even when finished. I haven't checked with Vuescan yet but maybe the scanner should just be replaced. Need recommendations.

...this is the niche that Epson has flourished in...

Look at Epson. I don't know the models available right now-mine has been working fine for many years.

Lots of people like the V600 Epson. I paid the big bux and bought a v850 but had a special project at the time that demanded (I *thought* at least, lol) that quality. But I'm betting the V600 is a great option.

I bought a V600 too. Scanning of B&W negatives was incredibly good.

At the time it was compatible with Word8 but not 10. The result is that the tabs on the actual scanner do not work.
Consequently it is a multistep procedure to copy one piece of paper- a real loss.

I haven't checked with Epson in several months. Have they solved that problem with 10 yet?
They were waiting for the "factory" to do something.

On the recommendations to my query (see https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-680481-1.html) I bought the Epson V600 and can attest that it solved my problems with scanning old B&W negatives. I use Vuescan with it, but the Epson software works very well too.

Thanks. A lot of responses are agreeing with Epson.
