Except for the models of the cars, and the number of attendants, alot of them look suprisingly similar to todays self serve stations

A wonderful series of old gas stations, from what i would call Gas Palaces to the mere sheds. I especially enjoyed a peek at the old gas pumps with the two glass cylinders showing you the "wares". If memory serves me right (I no longer can count 100% on that!) some of the early pumps were operator driven, The customer turned a handle and the glass cylinder could be seen filling up. I was surprised to see so few operators, there was a time when a person (imagine THAT) pumped the gas for you, checked your oil level and washed your windshield.

There was a time when one attendant pumped the gas, another checked the oil level, and a third washed the windshield!

Loved'em all Mike. My Dad owned a Texaco station from 1946 to 1988 and I spent many hours working there as a teenager.
