Mac HELP!

I just posted my snowy owl photo here. Then back to LR to convert to B&W and export again. When I went to email the new image, the whole folder was gone, not even the image I had just posted, or, for that matter a few years worth of photos. Have tried searching my Mac, no joy. Any ideas for the not too savvy computer person?

Have you checked the Trash folder? Just click the Trash icon in the bar at the bottom. If you see the folder or the image files there, just drag them to the desktop or some folder alias icon there.

First see if there is an undo option in the drop down menus. Second, check to see if it was accidentally sent to the Trash, if there drag and drop to previous site or desktop. If these don't work go to the finder and search for the folder name or one of the files it contained, the path to the folder/file will appear when you click on it.

LR can't delete photos unless you hit the delete key, or you purposely go to a menu and tell LR to delete the photo. That said, do you remember where you import your images? What I mean is, most likely your photos are exactly where you imported them in the first place. Knowing how the folder structures works is very important. If you don't know enough about folder structure, then maybe you know the exact name of the picture file. If you don't remember that, then perhaps you can go back to your camera or the card from your camera and connect to your computer to see what the names of some of the picture files are. Write one down, then open "Finder" on your Mac and look for that file. Note which folder the file is in and then use your LR app to go to that folder. To do that open LR, press the G key on your keyboard, that will take it to the grid view in the Library mode, and look at the folder on the left hand panel. You may have to click on the little triangles to expand the folders. Go to the folder that the file is in and you should see all the imported files there.

Hmmm! Thank you all! I did eventually find them but only after a lot of unduplicateable button pressing! Now I'm going dumpster diving in the trash. I'll also reexamine my folder structure now that I have an idea about what I'm doing. Thanks again!

Go to FINDER. Use the tools in the upper left to search you entire HD. If it is on your MAC it will show up in FINDER. Cheers.

BACK EVERYTHING UP.

NOW.

And by "Everything", I mean Everything. Not just photos. Email. Word processing documents. Spreadsheets. Program configuration files.

Everything.

On my macs, Finder tools are on the upper right ? I use the "Spotlight" search (looks like magnifying glass icon). Also, make sure you check in all the Search folders/drives....

As an IT consultant for over 25 years, I can't begin to count the number of times I've heard variations of this story. 99% of the time, the user has accidentally dragged the file or folder into another folder. Mac or PC makes no difference, as they work the same way in this regard.

Of course, backing up is always a good thing to do, since all storage media fails eventually. At any rate, I'm glad you found them!

That is the wonders of double back up.

I'm with you, Picture Taker. I've actually gone to triple backup, at least one offsite, since I've experienced double media failure a few times over the years, and storage has become so inexpensive!
