Beginning Photographer with limited budget ($1,000.00) who wants to move from point and shoot to camera for more control over resulting images. Have narrowed search to Nikon D5600 per weight and features BUT Nikon’s discontinuing its D5600 production (and its total workforce by 30% per restrictions placed by Japanese government). So, D5600 camera I ordered with two lenses in November 2020 may never be delivered. Nikon D7500 is too bulky, heavy for me; making videos is not my main focus. Taking classroom online instruction via Zoom with specific weekly assignments. How advise me: find D5600 now, stick with my Fujifilm EXR 660 point and shoot or do something else? Thanks!

Have you considered the Nikon Z50. It is a very light camera and does an excellent job.

If you are just starting out with interchangeable lens cameras forget DSLR's - go mirrorless. No benefit to DSLR's unless you have a bag full of old gear or are entrenched in a 'back-in-the day-when-I-shot-film-and-men-were-men' mentality. Also, you find it much easier to migrate from a point and shoot to mirrorless than to a DSLR.
Any of the Sony A6xxx series would be great system for you - just pick your price point. The A6000 and Sony E 18-105mm f4.0 OSS would be a great combination for around your $1000 budget.

Don't let the "DSLR's are dead" crowd dissuade you from buying one. They are far from dead and I'm sure you can find one to fit your needs if that is what you want.

You said "have narrowed search." Does that mean you eliminated some very fine Fuji cameras, which you have a basic understanding of its philosophy of cameras with your point-and-shoot? How about Pentax? It has the K70 or KP, both of which are weather sealed whereas the D5600 is not, and it has a faster shutter speed and other features that are just as good if not better. It's ok to consider something other than Nikon.

The D5600 with 2 lenses should have reached you by now if you ordered in November! Call and cancel today, if you can, then take a bit of time to explore the mirrorless possibilities out there. Since you are just starting out, you may as well begin with the latest tech. Sony, Canon, Fuji, and Nikon all have great, lightweight cameras...

Check out the Nikon Z50 with one or both kit lenses. It's available from B&H, and is a remarkably capable yet inexpensive camera in your price range. I received one for Christmas and it hasn't left my hand since.

The Nikon D7200 would be a great choice, duel control wheels with two SD card slots with many lens choices. Better than the D5600 IMHO.
