History has proven that the best burglar deterrent is a loud dog. Central station alarm systems are worthless here in NY. The police respond hours later.

Perfect security system! My dog has the same colouring and when someone comes to the door I know he sees himself as a Doberman, protector of the home front. But he’s a dachshund!

Same for my Chihuahua's

But the sign omitted that the key is in a safe sunken into the slab. Just in case someone does manage to bribe the dogs with some steak.

I read once that the perfect night time security system was 2 Dobermans with no bark.

I wouldn’t mess with some dachshunds. What they lack in size they make up with bravery.

I used to have a Great Dane and a cat that were best friends. The dane always would bark and growl whenever someone came to the door, and the cat would follow him to the door. As the dane got older & slowed down he didn't always do his job when someone came to the door. At this point the cat took over and would rush to the door growling.

Many years ago, there was a story in the papers about a smart thief who carried frozen steak with him. When he broke into an apartment here in NYC, and encountered a dog, he would throw the frozen steak toward the dog, who would scrape away like mad with its paws to get at the steak. While that was going on, the thief would take what ever he wanted and leave. He went through his routine in an apartment where a Doberman was on duty. After throwing the steak, he turned to look for something to take, when the Doberman took what he wanted, a chunk of the thief’s a$$. The thief was captured, but there was no mention of which chunk of meat the Doberman ate.

They were bred with those short legs to go down into badger and fox dens to either fight them or drive them out - they started as hunting dogs - only in our modern world are they household pets.

My little Tara is a cross of dachshund and Irish Shorty Jack Russell - both hunting dog breeds - she doesn't know how to back down from a fight. With humans she is a cuddle bug, but raccoons, opossums, rats etc. in our yard she is hell on four feet. And once jogging with our daughter she was attacked by an aggressive German Shepard 5x her size. Even hurt pretty badly she kept trying to get at the shepherd when people pulled the two of them apart.

No problem - by the way, she is now a dignified lady of 11 (so pretty old for either of her breeds) - well scratch the dignified part. She needs to rest more between sessions and has a heart murmur. We have had her from 9 weeks old and just over 2 lbs, she could curl up on someone's hand.

Here she has a critter "treed" on the fence.

And this is her and her partner in crime, Toby-my wife's Shin Zhu. And yes, she alternates between pampering and bulling him.

Come on down and fight!
