I’m 75, and I’m scheduled for my first dose on the 20th. My wife, who is 71, isn’t eligible yet, and that bothers me a lot (I want her to get it ASAP and would gladly give her my spot). Hopefully, the new guidelines today will allow her to get it soon. Here in NC, the logistics are pretty haphazard. The health dept is not showing any availability. One hospital chain had available appointments, and they were gone within hours, yet another county had a first come, first served drive thru today, and as expected the lines were around the block(s). One of my sons, who is a first responder, and hasn’t had it yet even though there have been half a dozen cases and 60 in quarantine in his department, wasn’t allowed because management were worried they might call in sick from a reaction to a shot (really?). My other son is a HS teacher with a new baby at home and is expected to go back to face to face teaching next week even though cases are exploding here and all the surrounding counties have given up and gone back to online learning. The medical community has done and is doing their job, now our government at all levels needs to do theirs and organize the distribution of this vaccine to slow/stop this pandemic, and so far they have failed.

In NY, the eligible age has dropped to 65, and I think that's nationwide. I suspect this will make the wait for an appointment even longer.

Part of an email from the County -

Ulster County has the capacity to distribute up to 50,000 vaccines a month. However, due to a severe shortage in supply from the federal government, we have far less doses than anticipated. During the previous three weeks, Ulster County and other vaccination partners have been allocated 4,300 total vaccine doses and this week Ulster County was allocated a total of 1,200 doses, which the County and partners are currently dispensing now.

I'm 78 and haven't heard anything yet. I plan to get mine through the VA. They have been sending periodic updates.

May I suggest that you take your wife with you and wait out the day until the last appointment. Let them know you are there if they have any doses left and need to dispense or dispose. Your wife may get lucky--sorry, not you!

NYC finally has ramped things up. Now that 65+; they have/are opening more locations. Apps opened up yesterday. First App't was at Jones Beach for mid-March. Then Javits Center opening (finally being used!!!). My wife and I have shots scheduled for this Saturday. And others are stepping up as well. New Met's owner Steve Cohen is opening up CitiField as a center. Yankess may follow soon. Both are centrally located in areas that are easily accessible. Let's hope that the serum ships as quickly.

Great idea - thanks. N.C. should be following the new CDC guidelines soon which would make her eligible, but I’m afraid that’s going to deplete the supply quickly.

In Colorado, that’s not the case. The recently created 1b group, which is currently getting inoculations is 70+. Got mine this Monday morning.

We're also in the 1B phase, but then it switched to those over 65.

There are times when we must be a country, not 50 states. Imagine fighting WWII like this, each state deciding who to draft, train, etc. My take has been that many did not want to take charge, but also did not want to give power to others to do so. You want the job, take the responsibility or get out of the way.

The real danger is that someone will take from all this that the US is a paper tiger and do something stupid, how wars get started.

I am getting my first shot tomorrow, I have spent no less than 8 hours on hold on the phone with out talking to anyone. Hours and hours filling out on line forms that get you down to the last question and wont allow you to finish the form for the appointment. The problem is there has not been any direction from the top. The vaccine is sent to the states, and the states have to figure out just how they will come up with the money and personnel to administer the vaccine. As a result one must explore various places to get the vaccine. Unfortunately the US has floundered miserably. I understand that hindsight is 20 20 but we have failed to show the rest of the world the leadership and know how that we were once noted for. The lack of leadership has cost many lives. We should be ashamed as a nation for the way we have handled this situation. I would like to think that at the very least this has been a learning experience, but I am not sure that it has been. I live in Arizona and I see people running around without masks and disregarding the science. Tomorrow I must drive 50 miles to get my first shot from Banner Health and am grateful for that. Once I gave up trying to connect with the state health system (what we are supposed to do) and started to talk to Banner, everything cleared up, efficiency returned, it was like a day and night difference. Hats off to Banner and their people. Lets hope it gets better.Everyone please wear masks.

Here in Hillsborough County, the website crashed within several minutes of being launched and the telephone line was always busy. Hopefully, the new website will be more efficient. USF Health has indicated that it will email patients 65 and above with pre-conditions. I do not have high hopes.

Agree with all said, but I wonder, sometimes, whether progress is an illusion. Saw a program on WWII, where the US sent soldiers to the Aleutians to remove the Japenese. They were sent in summer gear for a winter operation!!!!
