This is a great shot as-is. If you shot raw, you could put it into an editor and reduce the shadows on the chopper to bring out just a bit more detail. Well done. Please stay safe and keep no sharing.
Thank you....We didn't go to any events last year due to COVID...hoping this year is different...I will stay safe thank you...and the way I honor the crew and the aircraft is to share my photos of them...so You are Welcome
Epic aerial rendering... fabulous acuity... breathtaking color harmonies latent within...
Yes "as is" makes for an enchanting sunset image...
That said, if submitting for publication the editor(s) would likely crop over half the sky out...
As many emerging photojournalist have heard... "Get Closer!"
i.e. The subject must dominate the frame...
It's perfectly Ok to shoot me, I'm only the messenger here...
Thanks for sharing... You're a very tough act to follow Namwife
Please stay safe... All the best on your amazing journey!

Please help me learn what is right with this shot and what I need to improve on...

You will have to work on the wires holding up the helicopter. Maybe get some sky-hooks.
Seriously, you did great. A difficult shot to get, considering the ambient issues.
It looks good to me as it is.
That's a wonderful photo, perfect settings, great composition. It buckled me back into a jump seat that I occupied nearly 30 years. Good memories. The sounds of freedom!
First, it is truly a great shot. Having said that, I would suggest a slightly lower shutter speed. Just slow enough to blur the rotor blades a little. But, as is, it is a shot you of which you can be very proud! Congrats!
Cheers,
Don
Excellent image. Keep doing what you are doing.
That is a beautiful photograph of the old USMC UH-34. I have ridden in many of those aircraft during my time with the USMC. My squadron, HMM-265, used the CH-46 and the UH-34 was being phased out for the CH-46. Now of course the 46 has been phased out as well. Both were great aircraft.
When were you or your husband in Vietnam if I might ask; what squadron? Thank you both for your service.
Dennis
