These were taken with a Sony RX100vi. The hawk was taken at full telephoto, and the golf scene that “normal.“. The camera is palm sized.
You did not put a budget suggestion.

The one big disadvantage I find with the camera is that you must use the viewfinder on bright days.

Hope this helps.

Depends on how small you want. The Micro 4/3 system gives you an excellent range of interchangeable lenses and superb quality. It fits in between the Sony 100 series and ff mirrorless. The Panasonic G9 is currently my travel camera. It is tough, waterproof and full featured. I put the body with a Lieca 12-60, LUMIX 35-100 and a pancake 20 for street photography in a 6”X8”X10” bag that I can easily carry cross shoulder everywhere I go. It slips into my carryon backpack. I still travel with my D850 when shooting wildlife in Africa or on road trips. If I only want a pocket camera, my phone works great.

I would suggest two options. One of the Panasonic LUMIX point and shoot, with a built in zoom lens. I chose mine because it has a viewfinder as well as the LED, and you can use the features s you may be used to, such as aperture priority or shutter priority, etc. The other option, really not much bigger, (fits in a pocket too) is the Olympus PEN-F with a small “pancake” lens. With this option, you can decide later if you want to add a changeable different lens to carry in your pocket or bag for things like longer reach. This is a much more capable camera with built in HDR, keystone correction etc. Good luck with your decision. JimR

I would like a recommendation for a lightweight travel camera. I have a Fuji system: First, an XE2 and then an XT2. I was disappointed in the results from both Fuji’s, particularly with the kit lens. I have a full Nikon system but it is too heavy to carry around. I do have a Leica Type 109, which is great but the range is short (24-70 equivalent). I was thinking of the Sony A series cameras like the A6600. I still am mystified about the Fuji reviews. I have a 23 f2; 27 f2.8; 50 f2 and 55-300 with an XT2. Thoughts? Could be me but I have been taking pix for over fourth years.

Maybe it is just me, but why look for yet another system? Both Nikon and Fuji are excellent systems. If your Nikon system is just too heavy to carry around, but you are otherwise satisfied with it and used to it, why not trade in for one of their new, lighter Z system bodies, which initially would allow you to use existing glass with an adapter. I have a Fuji XE3 that I use pretty much for travel and many of the same lenses you own, and this does not disappoint me at all in terms of image quality. Maybe not relying on the kit lens would help. Having said that, being a novice, my standards may be substantially lower than yours. The ultimate decision is yours. Let us know what you decide.

I went from full frame Nikon (D800) to Fuji X-T2 and the Fuji has performed excellently. Either there is something wrong with your choice of software to convert Fuji RAW or there is something wrong with your technique.

A few years past, when the Secretary of Homeland Security, threatened to prevent any electronics, larger than a cell phone, to be in the cabin of a plane (and also said he'd block returning flights too), we had a vacation cruise booked for the Baltic. What do I do? I purchased a Lumix DCM-TZ80. I used it throughout our trip, to include St. Petersburg. When we returned, I proceeded to process for printing images, 8x10 and larger. The outcome was excellent. This camera even has optional through-the-lens viewing when shooting. By the way, I also refer to this camera as my 'pocket camera', for it is that small. I'd highly recommend this one.

I have the Sony RX100 Mark 7 and am very satisfied with it. Its performance in very low light situations is not the absolute best, but otherwise the image quality is superb. It has a good reach (200mm) and once you get used to it, it is very easy to use. I do recommend buying the hard shell case for it, as it not only protects the camera but makes it easier to grip.

Truism – the best camera is the camera you have with you.
Like you, I am Nikon heavy. I have found great pleasure having my old DX with kit 18-300 with me most of the time. The camera I would recommend though is the new iPhone Pro Max 12 shooting Raw (IOS 14.3). I did Christmas morning with only the iPhone shooting 331 shots. The pictures using post processing came out really well.
Additionally, besides being a camera, it allows people from foreign nations to keep up with your car warranty.

Most of my travels was via motorcycles and finding a camera that I could turn on and off with one hand while moving, and, Must have a view finder for when I would stop in bright sunlight and wanted a quick picture. Also a great low light camera and does shoot in RAW for better processing later. I went with the canon g-12 then g-15 and now have two G-16s. bought off ebay. Still my most used two cameras out of the 6 digit cameras I currently have including my cell phone.

I picked up an open box G16 from Best Buy 5 years ago for only $300 and totally agree with you. Built like a tank, versatile, easy to use, and takes excellent images for a compact sensor camera. Mine is often along for bike rides. I don’t know anyone who isn’t satisfied with the Canon Powershot G series. Something smaller and definitely more pocketable is the “S” seres, S100, S110, and S120. The S and G series are often available on eBay for surprisingly reasonable prices.

My primary camera is a Nikon D800e, but when it comes to a traveling setup, I take my Sony A6000. The Sony is light, compact, full-featured, and tough. I know the A6000 isn’t the “latest,” but neither is the D800e; I’m not a GAS victim, I’m a photographer.

I like the Sony 6xxx series but my pocket camera is the RX100 series. I had owned two Fuji cameras, A3 and T1. You may consider the Fuji "E" series. It about the same size as the Sony 6xxx, and you already have the lenses.

I shoot Nikon. But, when hiking on a rough trail and gotta travel light, I use a Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III: very compact, fits in a small zipper case on my belt, shoots RAW, and has a 20 MP one inch sensor.

I'm surprised and have the same reaction as Bayou, the fuji lineup consistantly gets good reviews and the images I've seen are all excellent (if shot reasonably well). I'd also be looking into other explanations. Have the results been disappointing for all of the lenses? Have the results always been disappointing? How are the images if shot on a tripod (just to eleminate shake and vibration). Have you tested manual, double checked settings (ISO, WB, exposure lock, shutter delay etc.) for something that could be throwing you off. Exhausting those and others you may think of including the RAW conversion suggestions, if you haven't found some other explanation I'd be inclined to send it into Fuji for service. These cameras are a top choice amoung many photographers, particularly uban and travel, for their high quality product and images in a relatively compact package.

the latest in the Sony series is the RX100 VII (7) (not the series VI (6). I have it. It is a great camera! If you purchase it,do yourself a favor and get Alexander Whites book: Photographer's Guide to the Sony DSC RX100 VII.
This wonderful book is a big help to understanding the camera!

Save some money and get the VI version. The VII version has only minor video improvements.

The Lumix DC-TZ220 would be my recommendation. Cheaper than the Sony and bigger zoom range 24-360mm. Attached SOOC
