Antivirus software

I have PC Matic installed on my PC running Windows10 and sometimes when I want to look at something it gets blocked and I don't know what to do. One of the recent things I wanted to add was Rakuten, and it kept saying that there was an Ad Blocker. I turned PCM off for 10 minutes and it said Rakuten was accepted, but the next time I tried to use it, I was blocked again.

My question is; I had a guy check over my PC and he said it was OK, but then said "Why are you even using AV software, I don't use any because Bit Defender is included in Windows 10 and you don't need it?" What is your opinion on this? I've been with Norton, Kaspersky, AVG, etc. over the years based on whatever my IT guy has been using.

All that is needed to stop Defender is a simple command if someone gains access/priv escalation on your computer:

mpcmdrun.exe -RemoveDefinitions -ALL

I'm not saying this is a highly likely scenario, but it's that easy.

I have PC Matic installed on my PC running Windows... (show quote)

I am getting the same kinds of problems. Often it blocks download or install of a non Microsoft Store app. I have to tell it to install it anyway. Also when I try to sign into my Microsoft account I get a blank screen, I can't fill in boxes to sign in if I can't see them, it happens on a couple of other sites also. Sometimes it give me a message it has blocked some features of a site or app - again I have to tell it to go ahead anyway but it doesn't always work.

I was using Windows Defender (part of Win 10) and Malwarebytes in combo (recommended by one of the major PC mags a few years ago right after Win 10 came out). I also had System Mechanic for cleanup and tweaking - they have now added anti-virus/malware and after I turn those off they keep turning them on every update. I use Acronis for my backups and they have added a full security suite I have to turn off. Who knows what other apps are doing the same thing? So all of these "anti" programs are conflicting with each other and causing problems. I need to go through and maybe even cancel some of my apps to stop this.
Oh, also something now keeps signing me out of my emails, Adobe apps etc - sometimes while I am using them. And in the case of one account with a CA state site (special needs son who gets services, some paid and it won't recognize the sign in to authorize the caregiver's time sheets, it tells me it is the wrong user name or password - well I use Last Pass to fill that in and it is the same user name and password that has been working for a long time. So after lunch I will be on hold with the state people a lot since not being able to sign in I will have to phone them. Don't you just love how when you can't sign on to a site and go to "Contact Us" and click on the phone number link it tells you to use the on line site before you try the phone?

I believe part of this is a gradual build of problems due to a lack of preventive maintenance by people trying to work from home on their own hookups instead of being in the office on their work stations etc. Curse you Covid-19 lock down rules!!!
