Just ran across this from our friends at B&H - 1TB Professional 633x UHS-I SDXC Memory Card - was originally $249, "Deal of the day" $99....quite the discount. I do not use anything that large, use external HD for that much...cheap memory marches on!! I generally stay with 32 & 64GB, and at <$10 for those (quality brands too) how can you go wrong!
I'm tempted to buy one, leave it in the computer for storage or something.
Just checked on Amazon same card has some bad reviews. Confusing.
All cards are not equal. It's all about the speed.

That kind of card would be fast enough for most of my applications, I just don't like putting all the eggs in one basket. I've also switched to the micro cards, as I have become accustomed to changing out the card without removing the SD card shell/adapter from the camera....much less wear and tear on the old camera card slot, and those adapters are free, and they work well.

Amen. Storage is not expensive so buy only the best, such as Sandisk and WD.
Could lesser names be as good ? Maybe or maybe not but the small savings do not justify volunteering myself to be a test case.

In all my years with digital, including rough duty applications like drone cameras (and crashing drones), I have never had a card failure. I've had card readers fail, and card reader in a camera fail, but never a card. Use the major brands myself, SanDisc, Lexar, Transcend, WD, SD/SDHC/CF. Lot of Extreme Pro and such, but if I get the speeds they advertise I'm happy.....
I like the "cheap is expansive, expansive is cheap"......

SD cards that large are generally intended for high pixel count cameras that generate 45 to 50mb or larger raw files, and especially for 4K video. You also seem to suggest that large SD cards could be used as a backup medium. While some do use them for that purpose I personally would not recommend it.

For purpose of back medium, there are other, more cost-efficient options available. Such as external hard drives.

I was just sharing the info in case it might interest someone. What you, I or anyone else does is probably what suits their situation/application best....and is possibly meaningless to anyone else.

I don’t know what the 633x relates to because the max write speed is quoted as 70MB/s which is just a little slower than my Sandisk 256GB microSD. So it seems to be normal speed for modern SD cards.

High capacity, high speed cards are made primarily for video recording. As super high bit rate 4K and 8K video become more popular, larger, faster cards are welcome.

Nice to see the Gig's going up and the prices coming down....as I said, I don't use any that large (use portable hard drives) and really, my Raw needs top out at around 40-50MB per pic, so I'm fine with the 32 and 64GB....if I do slide more into video, nice to know it won't be another mortgage for the memory. By the way, hope you are doing well through all this mess we are in...strange times!!
Take care, mike
