More beach shots while out on my bike

Since there hasn't been much activity on this post lately, I thought I'd just post a few. I took these while out riding my bike along the beach recently. A marine layer drifted in and created some interesting lighting. The sun would disappear and occassionally shine thru a hole in the fog. I just waited until the sun decided to peek thrugot the first image. After about an hour later the sun burned off the marine layer displaying some nice sunset images. I've been playing with, both, the moment app and Apples Native camera app. The first image was a bracketed shot (-2,0,+2 eV) using Moment's app. The remaining shots were single images taken with Apple's app using ProRaw. All the shots were taken aimed directly into the sun.

The last one is my favorite. Thank you for participating in our new section! Whenever you have the time I would like for you to explain the process of setting the bracketing feature on the Moment app. I have the app but using the bracketing feature is a bit confusing. Also, what model of Smartphone are you using?

Here are the steps for setting the bracket mode

1) Open the Moment app and go to the Settings Menu

2) Turn 'ON' the bracketing switch, press 'Done' to return to the main screen

3) You will now see a 'BKT' selection at the very left of the camera controls. Press it to activate the bracketing mode.

4) The app does a 3 image bracket, -eV, 0eV and +eV. In this screen, it defaults to -3eV, 0eV and +3 eV.

5) Using your finger on the left side, move the -eV bar to your desired setting. Then, again, using your finger, move the +eV bar to your desired setting. Then just press the shutter button. It saves 3 images to your photos folder.

If you want to change the 0eV to something else, use the eV slider to adjust.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Hi Dave, Thanks for stopping by an viewing. I thought I responded earlier, but I must have missed pressing the 'send' button. I'm responding here to your response to my previous post about exposure control. That way more of our group might get to read my response.

I agree that the Moment and 645 apps have similar control over exposure as a 'real' camera. Apple's camera app feels like it's set up primarily for the more causal P&S photographer and less so for the serious photographer. However, there are hidden gems even in the apple app. Regarding exposure control, there are 3 methods you can use to control exposure within Apple's app.

1) Tap on the screen and you'll get a small yellow box. This is where the camera will focus. If you slide your finger up or down along the right side of the box. Then press the shutter button. It changes the exposure for that image only.

2) Press and hold on the area you want to focus on until you see the AE/AF LOCK message appear at the top of the image. You have now locked exposure on a particular area of the screen and you can adjust the exposure again by sliding your finger up and down on the screen. This remains locked until you tap the screen to unlock it. The focus and exposure remains locked for as many photos as you want to take until you tap to unlock the AE/AF.

3) To make exposure totally manual, set the 'Exposure Adjustment' switch to 'ON' in the 'Settings|Camera|Preserve Settings' panel. You'll see a small exposure icon at the top of the screen. Tapping that icon brings up an exposure slider just above the shutter button. The setting is persistent, it remains until you change it.

Overall though, I prefer the controls in the moment app better than Apple's app. I haven't used the 645 app since getting the new camera. I still need to download the LR app for the phone and give it a try.

On another note, I'd like to hear your impressions of and experiences with ProRaw when you have a chance. I'm quite impressed with it, but it is just a tool. It has its strengths and weaknesses. But that's for another post.

Mike
