Thanks for that link, Mark. I'm probably going to hear that all day.

That's one I never heard! There doesn't seem to be much of Slim Gaillard on the web. I'm a fan of his recordings with Slam Stewart on bass, Slim & Slam. My favorite is "A Shanty In Old Shanty Town" which Johnny Long lifted in 1946. Long copied the Slam Stewart part note for note.
Thanks for introducing me to this fine musician. There is a video on YouTube well worth watching, just called"Slim Gaillard" where he plays piano with a comical style. Long fingers on this man!

He played with Charlie Parker and a host of others.

Wow, he's a Detroiter I'm not familiar with. One I am familiar with, however, is Howard Armstrong who was "rediscovered" in Detroit a number of years ago!! Thanks for a "new" (to me, anyhow) Detroiter
Slim Gaillard was popular on the West Coast and spent a lot of time appearing there. He was one of the original jive talkers and was known for tagging everything with "a-roonie." In a club in Los Angeles he was in the men's room and someone introduced him to Mickey Rooney. He replied, "Glad to meet ya! What's your last name, Micka-roonie?"
Mark. .
I was a regular "hang out" in Los Angeles jazz and folk clubs in the late 50's. . .And, I recall (vaguely) seeing (hearing) Slim in one of those clubs. . .

Hi Brian.
We “older dudes” were blessed with in person performances of masters of jazz. How lucky we were/are.
Stay safe and we’ll. Good to hear from you.
