This is the rear leg of a common Black Field Cricket that I staged for a focus stacking session. I'm always amazed at how these tiny creatures have evolved in these strange and wondrous ways.

That photograph is sharp enough to cut somebody if not careful. I like the black over blue for the background too. It makes the photo stand right out proudly.

I sometimes look at insects and think about how dangerous they might be if sized up to be a danger to mankind. This one could accomplish much damage with those sharp claws.

Thanks, Dennis. We are ever so fortunate that Mother Nature has limited their sizes. It would be a true horror show if they were the size of a cow.

Thanks, Kpmac. I wanted to do something a bit different and I had no idea of how "thorny" it truly was until I viewed it under magnification.

Sippy, excellent. And to finish your sentence...and then allows me to photograph it and show my friends.

Thanks, Greg and sharing what I do and how I do it is truly the most enjoyable part. My greatest joy would be for others here to share them with their young grandchildren so that they could see the wonders of the tiny critters around them in a new and different way.

You know I like the simple and compound eyes in your photos but I also look at the tarsal claws in the DDL in all your insects. Very interesting to me at least.

Thanks, Doc. The cricket has a wild looking rear leg with those hooks and projections.
