Yes, things certainly are not like they used to be. I go with if you can’t say something nice, just move on. If ask for a critique, give an honest answer in a positive way.

Wow, just had an upsetting situation happen on Instagram. I made a comment on a non photography post on Instagram and someone must have gone to my page, or what ever you call it, and looked at my photos. They then went on to say that many of the photos were not mine! They even said they had seen one on Nat Geo and was not mine and I was not giving credit! I responded to this person saying they were certainly all mine and the response back was there is no watermark and why do others names show up? Then proceeded to ask if I worked for Nat Geo.... I can only assume the other names they referred to are the people I tagged who were on the trip with me and I do not use a watermark, as many on Instagram do not.

This just really upsets me to be accused of claiming someone else’s photo! I did once again reply that I guaranteed that 1,000% they are all my photos and I was honored they thought my photos were Nat Geo worthy....

The EXIF data shows the owner. Don't be intimidated by idiots.

Good answer. And if they bother you again block them. Glad I never have had such a thing happen. I shoot a lot of flower close-ups and even the flowers in my yard look essentially the same as any other of that same species. I have even seen flower images on the UHH that like one of mine. Many time after getting images on to my computer I confuse images I took from my wife's.

Ha, my husband tends to take the same photo I’m taking but with his cell phone and posts to our friends before I get mine home and processes!!!!🙄

I know how you feel Photolady... However my offender only intimated
that the images were not mine, by saying "If you took that photo".
If they had outright said "You did not take that photo" and
it was in writing, as it appears you have suffered, I would be seeking legal advice
about suing for slander, liable and defamation of character.

Warm wishes,

Alan. PS I like your work too

I can appreciate the comment about placing you watermark on the photo.
I guess I’m lazy when it comes to social media. But we can tell you that I was completely fooled about the radioactive watermark. You got this PhotoLady.

That is why Instagram has a block feature. Use it!

If the photo was taken with a digital camera, then there will be an EXIF file embedded in the header. It will tell all the data that person needs to know.

Is this the reason that many do not post pics on UHH and only troll. I have had several ask me about using my photos and I’ve allowed them to unless for profit

I haven’t seen instances of trolling here. I’m not a moderator, and only been on about 5 years. Yeah...sometimes there’s the snarky response, at least offered without an attack...and everyone here is typically thick skinned and VERY helpful and supportive.

Maybe we need a refresher in social media safety (face it...UHH is social media), and be more vigilant.

I’ll suggest that if you think you’re the victim of a personal attack (yes...challenges to your credentials, credibility, and abilities are attacks), raise it privately to a moderator. Don’t engage.

The one thing I used to do on that other group was alert the moderator and shut down new members for a few days. Kick off the offender. These folks are looking to get a rise out of you, and will keep checking for open doors until they find one.

Heck...maybe they’re like Alpine and Blaupunkt radios and fruitcake: there’s only one and it keeps getting given or stolen.

Block them. Just remember, your feelings should only be hurt by people that matter to you.

The radio active watermark thing is an example of the blatant bombast concept. It’s in-you-face fiction, meant to stymie further discussion. IOW if an accuser comes at me with nonsense then I will, unblinking and poker faced, return nonsense as if it were real.

How would you pursue further discussion with someone who claims to use invisible radioactive watermarks ? It’s a dead end. If you choose to argue the case against it you just look foolish for having taken the claim seriously.

You can only use the radioactive wAternark on digital photos or you might grow a third eye.

You posted a good response. Unfortunately, you are going to run into awful people in this life who think it's their job to insult others. Best to just give them a wide berth.
