I think the original poster (PHOTOLADY2014) had handled it very well. I think as you do that she doesn’t need to prove anything to no one. As for a Watermark I never considered it as defacing my photographs. You do make a good point as a “watermark is for sad little nobodies with something to protect”. That is why I suggested a Poor Man’s Copyright. I have never heard of a radioactive copyright. Could you elaborate how this is accomplished. I would appreciate it and I’m sure other Hoggers might as well. You are welcome to private message me so as not to hijack this thread.

The radio active watermark thing is an example of the blatant bombast concept. It’s in-you-face fiction, meant to stymie further discussion. IOW if an accuser comes at me with nonsense then I will, unblinking and poker faced, return nonsense as if it were real.

How would you pursue further discussion with someone who claims to use invisible radioactive watermarks ? It’s a dead end. If you choose to argue the case against it you just look foolish for having taken the claim seriously.

Wow, just had an upsetting situation happen on Instagram. I made a comment on a non photography post on Instagram and someone must have gone to my page, or what ever you call it, and looked at my photos. They then went on to say that many of the photos were not mine! They even said they had seen one on Nat Geo and was not mine and I was not giving credit! I responded to this person saying they were certainly all mine and the response back was there is no watermark and why do others names show up? Then proceeded to ask if I worked for Nat Geo.... I can only assume the other names they referred to are the people I tagged who were on the trip with me and I do not use a watermark, as many on Instagram do not.

This just really upsets me to be accused of claiming someone else’s photo! I did once again reply that I guaranteed that 1,000% they are all my photos and I was honored they thought my photos were Nat Geo worthy....

I would not give THAT KIND OF PERSON, the time of day. You are too sensitive on this issue my friend. I would forget about him/her and move on. He /she is not worth your valuable time.

Wow! You pulled the wool over my eyes. I thought this was some new technology. I am surprised that you were so convincing that your BS fooled a BSA like myself.

Beth, I, too, think that very many of your images are worthy of Nat. Geo. Just wondering; with digital images METADATA, why would such a thing ever come up? Perhaps it is how we set up our cameras but, when I look at the data attached to my images, there is clearly the name of the artist and copyright info as well as date, time, lens, camera, etc. No problem. Drop these into Jeffrey Friedl's page and see.

The world is full of jackasses. Just tell them that digital images hold more than just pictures and that the data within yours "don't lie".

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

But if you’re at all up for it, it can be fun to sucker them into playing the fool.

Recommend them to a good therapist to help with their frustrations and anxieties.

Something similar happened to me, sorta similar anyway.
About 6 yrs ago i got an angry message from someone on facebook asking why i had not sent them the lens i sold them. I had no idea what they where talking about, so after a lot of investigation my wife and i found our facebook account AND our paypal accounts had been hacked and someone had sold a canon lens to about 15 different people. Our paypal account showed over $11,000.00 in transactions over just 3 days. We of course reported it to both facebook and paypal (all the money had been drawn out within minutes of each transaction.) They both found in our favor. We closed those accounts.
5 yrs later i was attacked on facebook claiming i had ripped them off a few yrs ago and they wanted there money back. After explaining it all to him he did not believe it, (not sure i would have either). Anyway he wound up being the guy that started it all yrs earlier. After much investigation by paypal facebook and the local Portland police, this guy was tracked down, we where informed just last month he had been found and arrested. From what we where told he had over a dozen other scams he stole over $75,000. And he was broke again so he was going back through facebook finding the people that he had hacked trying to strongarm them into paying him.
Crazy a** people out there.

Beth, I have seen your work for a long time and I can understand why someone would think it came from Nat Geo, but can't you explain how they can get the EXIF data from your shots?

I would have to see how a person would get it from Instagram, same as here maybe. Good idea in the future.

I have seen your bird photographs- they are superb! You certainly have no need to plagiarize anyone else's work. Whoever attacked you on social media needs psychological help!

Many social media platforms have become dumpster fires ignited by troublemakers, trolls, liars, and sick folks who have nothing better to do with themselves than cause aggravation for others.

You have already repudiated the falsehood and anyone who knows you or your work will not believe those false accusations.

As others have suggested, just forget about that post and do not dignify such falsehoods by engaging in protracted conversations withte the liar. Ignore or block that individual.

Personally, I confine my activities on general social media platforms for communicating with my grandchildren and a few friends and out-of-town relatives. If I want to post or share photographs I do so only with specific persons. This helps avoid misuse or unauthorized use of my images and dealing with trolls and troublemakers.

Please don't lose any sleep over stupidity!

Thanks for your kind words. I just enjoy sharing photos I think are pretty and I enjoy seeing others photos that are pretty! I am getting tired of some of the social media, too much hate out there....

Things happen. I put a photo on the Olympus Gallery once. As the month when on, I went in weekly to see all the other people's photos for ideas and inspiration. Suddenly my photo was not listed as my photo but as someone else's photo! I wrote Olympus and told them I was the owner of the photo, gave them the information about the taking of the photo, and asked them to reattach my name to the photo. All they did was remove the photo from the gallery (I suspect because of the "disputed" ownership). It was mind blowing to me that someone would even try and claim another person's photo as their own. But I know for a fact, due to this experience, that it has, it is, and it will happen again even if not to me.

I now know how you feel sort of in reverse! Thanks for your story, I know there are many out there like yours!
