I have 23 lenses. I bought 3 lenses when I bought my first Nikon, an F100. The lenses are, AF 24 F/2.8, AF 50 F/1.4, and AF 105 F/2.8 micro. I will never get rid of them even if I only use them as paper weights. They are like old friends that I still revisit from time to time, and they still work fine.

I have 4 Z lenses that I got to tip my toe into the mirrorless waters just to see if it would be a game changer for me. It wasn't, but I know in the future I will, if I live long enough, get more involved in with mirrorless. Some advancement will grab my attention.

When I first went to digital with a D1x I bought some DX lenses. The D1x was a heavy camera and the lighter lenses seemed to make sense. I do have a D7200 now that loves those lenses. Although I don't think they called it that, but the D1 and D2 were DX cameras.

The rest are full frame lenses ranging from 14 - 800 mm. I don't need them all, but I do use them all. I am not a serious photographer in that I don't have to get "That Picture". I do need to have fun, otherwise why bother. I often enjoy reaching into the cabinet, grabbing a lens and camera and shoot with it for a day or two. It could be in my yard, at the beach, or standing in traffic. Just kidding on the last one.

A friend and neighbor once asked me how I could spend so much money on a hobby. I pointed across the street to his $250,000 motor home. He smiled as he mumbled, "Nuff said".

And so I will end this by remembering my neighbor, "Nuff said"

Good G-D Man! I didn’t think that any store would sell all of them. Even with a bag that can hold 1 body and 4 hunks of glass you should hear me curse like a drunken sailor.

I have about 130 lenses, mostly vintage, from 8mm to 1000mm, made from around 1910 to the present, industrial lenses, scientific lenses, large format, cine, projection, fixed lenses taken from old camera bodies, mirror lenses, military lenses, aerial reconnaissance lenses, enlarging lenses, copy lenses, from Russia, England, France, US, Japan, Lithuania, Germany, etc. Each is unique and has its own character and uses. Of course I also have modern lenses for general photography.

Good G-D Man!!! With that much glass you can see the pimple on a fly’s A$$ while it is walking on Planet Pluto. I could never have that much glass. Let me rephrase that. My wife will never let me buy all that glass.

I have many lenses, the result of years of shooting. I have sold very few of them and I do not use many of them.
It is a hobby. For you it was to buy cameras and for others it will be to buy lenses or accessories.

Good that you can be so efficient! I have two systems, (APS-C and FF) so I should have 6 lenses. I also have pre-digital film cameras, so, I should actually have 9, since I still shoot film. (See how it can get complicated?) Occasionally, I need a high quality macro, a high-speed telephoto, or an extreme-reach telephoto, so that is adding 3 more, so, now I have 12 lenses, though I never carry all of my equipment at once, I do have what I need, when I need it, rarely taking more than 2 lenses at a time.

I used medium format plus Nikon’s in the old silver days of hours in the darkroom. Digital arrived and I went Canon and a dozen lenses most used rarely. Recently gone mirrorless with Fuji X for weight saving, intending to sell Canon gear. Another dozen or so Fuji lenses waiting to be used. Just bought a Leica Q do it all camera. It’s an illness. Next stop the shrink

Why is it that photographers are obsessed with obtaining so many lenses? I only have 3 lenses that serve me well. I have owned them now for about 8-10 years during which I have bought 4 new bodies. My lenses are the Canon 10-22mm efs, the 24-105mm L EF, and the 100-300mm EF. During the time i have owned these lenses I have owned the Canon XT, the 60d, 70d and now the 90d bodies. But I have never had a desire to buy new lenses. Why would I? My 24-105 is my general purpose lens. I use it for 75% or more of my shots. The 10-22 is for when I have to go wide and the 100-300 is for sports, wildlife and general telephoto needs. I cannot imagine needing anything else other than maybe a 50mm prime with a large aperture. I don’t have a camera bag big enough for anymore lenses.

How many lenses do you own?

I have just two excellent short-range zooms for my M4/3 Kit, 14-42 and 45-175 (28-350 35mm equiv) which cover all my needs for what I do.

Because it is a hobby and because they can! Ask the same question about guns, knives, watches, sport cars, fishing poles, etc....

I don’t own any guns. I don’t go hunting. I have two knives. One in my tool box and one I carry. I have a few watches that were given to me as gifts. Remember I can wear two but prefer just one. As for sport cars, I don’t want them because I am happy with my soccer dad’s minivan. Every 25,000 miles I have to change the hamster. As for fishing poles, I have one.

Heh, I had to do a count. 19 lenses.
4 everyday lenses and 4 backup lenses just in case. Not duplicates, but ones that can cover for the mains in quality and focal length and aperture.
The rest are Monty Python lenses...'And now for something completely different'.

I have three distinct areas of interest that benefit from specific lens characteristics, plus a spouse who occasionally wishes to join in, requiring something for her to use as well.

For nature photography, i have some relatively big glass, 300mm and 500 mm primes plus 100-400 and 70-300 zooms.

For low-light concert photography, I have an f2.8 70-200 plus 50mm, 85mm and 105mm primes. For whenever we have concerts again.

For astrophotography, I have a 14mm f2.8, a 35mm f1.4 and a 24 f1.4 prime plus an 11-20 f2.8 and a 15-30 f2.8 zoom. Unfortunately, the pandemic has prevented us from traveling to the best spots to use these.

Then for general walk-around purposes, I have a couple of mid-range zooms that I need to winnow down.

Oh yeah, a recent purchase of a Z50 with the two kit lenses.

On the other hand, my wife is happy with an 18-300 on her D5300.

All but one or two of these acquired on Ebay.

Can you provide an intelligent reason for your query?

What kind of a statement is that... We are here to discuss ANYTHING related to photography. Would you rather rehash the same old tired topics over and over again ? ACTUALLY I think it brings up the topic of " Will a new lens improve my photography ". Maybe yes, maybe no. Is there a REAL reason you need a new lens or do you think your skills will improve with an inanimate object ? Maybe yes, maybe no. IMHO most of us have not fully utilized the capabilities of what we already own. I am NOT a minimalist as I own lots of cameras and have not begun to utilize all of their abilities.... BUT it is fun to own new toys.

In woodworking you can never have too many clamps, but they are a lot cheaper than lenses.

That is so true. My wife still says... (more clamps?) however.
