My son and I drove less than half as far as we usually do last year. That saved a lot of money on gas. I've been making an effort to drive less. I put a Battery Tender on the battery every week.

I drive a lot less, but I still pay high insurance premiums.

I had to continue driving to work throughout the local shutdowns, so my mileage has not dropped by more than about 10% in the last year. Despite hardly having any leisure trips for most of the year, I thought the weekend trips out for a walk contributed a greater part of my average mileage.
My mileage did drop significantly a couple of years ago, after my father died, as I was no longer making the 200+ mile round trip to visit him om at least a monthly basis.

I forgot to mine on the last time I parked the pickup in the shed - time flies when you're having fun - the battery was dead when I went to start it - hopefully I'll remember next time

I think the MA Attorney General forced the insurance companies to give rebates to the public because folks were driving less. We got a rebate back in Aug. It screwed up our auto bill payments. We thought it was a permanent rebate and reduced the auto payment. However, the rebate was only for one month and they almost cancelled our insurance because the payment was short.

My premium with Allstate was reduced for one month. It was a good faith gesture on their part, but nothing to get excited about.

Ask for a refund, I got a couple thus far without asking.

I have saved all kinds of money, however I do drive a min. of fifty miles per week its 25 mile round trip to the grocery store.
My 99 Explorer sits for a month or more at a time, always starts, no battery minder used, once it fails to start I will replace the battery. The battery is now 3+ yrs. old so I'M sure it will fail, but not a problem I have a heavy duty charger and I don't drive the Explorer unless I need to pull a trailer. Granted our temps here have not been super cold for the last three years

Pre Covid lockdown, my normal commute was 35-40 miles each way depending on if I needed to go to the main campus in the evening for a class. Post shutdown that dropped to around 10 miles/week just going to/from the grocery store. I was planning on getting a new car last year - but I can now put it off for another year since I will be working/teaching remotely until at least August.

I did need to change the battery in my car - but it was at least 6 years old, so I was expecting it to go anyway.

Of course, the money saved from not commuting went into feeding my other GAS bill...

Between retirement and COVID, I sometimes wonder why I bother to have a car at all. I purchased a new Honda, November 27. It came with a full tank of gas. The first time I filled the still-quarter-full tank, was January 5. When I commuted to work, I had to fill the tank every five to six days.

Same here. Car sits in the driveway sometimes a week. The battery was replaced last year but still always running down. I finally removed my Verizon Hum unit from the OBD connector and no more battery problems! I'm cancelling the Hum service. It didn't really do much for me anyway.

Battery Tender is a necessity even if you drive. Cars don't fully charge batteries unless at highway speeds. Costco has a dandy one for 1/2 the price of Amazon. Look for the 4.5 amp Battery Tender at Costco.

So true. We bought a new Mini Cooper Countryman S in early October and the odometer shows less than 500 miles. At this rate I won’t have to change oil for about 5 years.
