I rearranged my tabletop macro setup back to horizontal for it tends to lend itself better for the way that I stage my subjects. I also added a microscope 144-LED ring light with packing foam diffusion and staged a pair of IKEA LED lamps with white paper diffusion for back and rim illumination.

I chose the Harlequin Bug as a subject because the contrast between the blacks, yellows and whites are quite challenging and it makes a good benchmark for future sessions.

This is a focus stacked session at 5X magnification with a stack of 177-images set at 15-micrometer increments of camera movement each to compliment the 0.017-mm depth of field of the objective lens used.

Thanks, perhaps the calibration of my was off where I picked up too much blue hue in the black. This should be better.

Thanks, Kpmac. It's one of my go-to specimens when I make changes to my rig for if there are any issues with it they typically show up on this one.

I love this one, sippy! The second one is indeed in much better color balance on my monitor. I'd love to find one of those critters to work with. I wonder if they exist over here on the left coast.

Keep on shooting and sharing. You're a great inspiration to all of us macro wanna-be shooters!

Thanks and somehow I goof up the temperature balance when I was sizing and converting the image for post.

Thanks, and I find that the family of True Bugs tend to have very defined compound eyes compared to some other families.
