Zoom Question

A local group is meeting on Zoom once a week, but they are new to this, and it's been a rocky road.

When members sign on, they use a number, not a web link. Then they need a password. Their meetings can last only half an hour. Then they have to go through the whole sign-in again to continue.

My Zoom groups run for two hours or more, and we get a web link to sign in - no password required. I thought that Zoom had removed the time restriction because of Covid. I think this new group is very small - maybe a dozen people.

Any ideas what's going on here?

EDIT: Okay, I see. Time is limited to 40 minutes and 100 people for free. For more time, it costs $149.90/year.

The web link I use for my one weekly meeting has a PW embedded in the link. No additional info required.
Phone access requires a meeting ID and PW because it can't be put in the phone number. I don't use that.
Two different access methods.
Use time allowed is a different scenario.
(Our initiating member must have an account as we converse for 50-80 minutes.)

After the 40 minutes have lapsed, you can use the same link again.

The person who opens the zoom session can send an email invitation to participants, who can click the link in the email and avoid using log-in names, numbers and passwords.

I did not realize zoom had a 40 minute time limit. I guess it has been a couple of months since I used zoom as most of my meetings have moved to MS Teams for security purposes.

Those meetings sound like they are with a paid account which do not have time limits.

Thanks. I'll pass that along.

FWIW, Cisco Webex has no time limit on "free" accounts. I used that for several group meetings, but found that Zoom was a better tool, at least for me. I paid to get a subscription, $15.99 a month I believe. With this there is no time limit. I open the invitation and send the portion with the sign-in link and password to all participants, and they just click on the link to enter the meeting.

A group I'm in recently had a zoom meeting and the free version is limited to 40 minutes. During our meeting, a screen message popped up saying it was removing the time restriction and we had a meeting for 1 and a half hours. I don't know how often they do that, and it may depend on the amount of free meetings taking place at the same time.
The host sends out a link for the meeting and you click the link and go right into the meeting, there was not problem logging on and the password is included with the link

Janet and I use skype for meet-ups with our friends in England and California. The meetings can last for several hours. We have not encountered any limits.
Bill.
