I'm looking for a 16/18mm to 200/300/400mm lens for travel (assuming that COVID will allow travel in 2021) with a Nikon DX body. What do you recommend for light weight, reasonable weather protection, reasonable quality option among Nikon, Sigma, Tamron and Tokina? Personal experience with recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
18-200 Nikon DX is a good lens.
I'll say, select a nice place where you can have romantic walks with it and then dine it until it gives in so you can have more fun in the night...

I had the 18-200 lens before it got stolen some years ago and I really liked it.

Sounds enticing--do you speak from personal experience
?

Definitively. I left the camera in the room and just paid attention to my wife.
Neither complained.

I use the 18-300 f5.6 Nikon DX lens. Suits my needs when I don’t need speed.

For family vacations I take my D7200 with a Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3. It has a few quirks, but the zoom range let's you cover almost everything in one lens. I also take a Nikon 50mm f/1.4G for those indoor low light situations where you shouldn't use a flash. IQ is good with the Tamron, not as good as the trinity (14-24mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8), but fine for everything except a professional portfolio. The image below was taken with the Tamron at 400mm, ISO 400, f/6.3, 1/60 sec, handheld. Ya, the VR is pretty good.
The other lens I highly recommend is the Nikon 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6. It may not have the reach you are looking for, but it is one of the best DX zooms out there.

I second that!
I don't. I always carry the camera, with a "standard zoom", so when my wife wants to take a photograph I just set it up and hand it to her.
Keeps her happy.
Here is an example taken by her on our first night in Paris.

I have a Nikkor 18-200mm in excellent condition. I switched camera systems, had to go with a lighter camera. You can contact me at DavidtSells@gmail.com if you're interested, thanks
