Well had enough with Safer at Home. Going from NW Wisconsin to Buffalo Wyoming. Taking 3 days to get there. Then staying at Occidental hotel, awesome 1880s restored hotel, bar, and restaurant. We've stay there twice before.
Stops on way Badlands, Custer State Park, Spearfish canyon, Needles Highway, etc. etc.
But we haven't been the Stay at Home type anyway, attempting to live as normal as allowed. We've followed rules when out and about also....

Good on 'ya! Wife, son, and I did the same last summer, except from NY to Grand Canyon, etc., etc. Had a fine time. Share with us some photos on the return.

Wow, in the UK, under the current Covid restrictions, we’re told to stay at home and are not permitted to travel far outside our local area for leisure purposes. Hotels and guest houses in the vast majority of the UK have been forced to close. Even with these restriction the new mutant variant doesn’t seem to have been brought under control.

Felt the same way. Took a 4855 mile road trip in October from Texas to Upper Michigan among other places on the jaunt. Six of us, two had already had Covid 19 and guess what. The other four caught it on the trip. followed all the rest of the rules but encountered far too many people who did not. No one had a serious case, thank God, but felt pretty crappy for a while. Steer clear of people as much as you can.

We Americans like our Freedom! No one is going to make us stay alive!

It's a shame that this Covid mutation is called the English mutation, just because you were diligent enough to study it and discover that it had changed. Now it is more contagious than ever. Our local numbers are shooting up, with around a hundred new cases every day in a county of about 179,000. The rate of infections among those tested has gone from around 3% to as much as 13%. Vaccine? What vaccine?

Slightly off topic: Fauci has been constantly going on about follow the science. I agree with that. Now he’s like, 12 weeks between shots is ok, even though there’s no science behind it. Maybe it would also be ok to mix and match vaccines, even though we have no idea whether that would be “safe and effective”. I never liked that guy. He screwed the pooch with HIV early on, as well as with COVID19 in January and February. He’s a glory hound.
BTW I wear a mask where appropriate, distance when possible, and avoid unmasked crowds.
Keep in mind, the disease is real, can be deadly, or leave you with long term deficits, that can make your life absolutely miserable. It’s all around LI, where my daughter and her family live. She knows several people who are seriously ill. So when you travel, be real careful. Stay safe.

Dr Fauci is a glory hound, really? The guy has been working at the NIH for over fifty years, and I’m certain most Americans never heard of him until now. I only know of him because he’s another guy from the neighborhood who has been extremely successful.

I followed the HIV debacle under another Republican President-Reagan. The gay community was fighting for the medical community to do something, anything to stop the homosexual Holocaust (my phrase, I don’t remember if it was used at the time). Fauci refused to allow certain medications to be used for humanitarian reasons at the time, although there were solid reports of the drug helping. There were huge protests, until Fauci finally gave in and opened up the drug for the HIV positive patients. Later on, Fauci and the leaders of the gay community reconciled.
Fauci knew in January that COVID19 had started spreading. He said, even as the virus was already here, that we had nothing to fear, and we should go about business as usual. He made other mistakes as well at the time.
He is a brilliant Doctor, who knew better and should have acted more assertively.
It could also be argued that he is by definition crazy; as he keeps saying over and over, that we can flatten the curve, save thousands of lives, if only we wear a mask, don’t travel, and socially distance. None of those he is trying to reach are listening- just reread the answers above and see if I’m wrong.
You are crazy if you keep saying the same thing over and over, expecting a different response.
He’s doing it for the I told you so, at the end, which he feels will look good on the big screen.

Without sending this thread to the attic, let me just add that Dr. Fauci has been working in spite of huge constraints, hindrances, misinformation and mismanagement (or lack of effective management) from other members of our government.

Just 5 MPH over the limit, and you got a ticket?
