While the responses you’ve received are funny, except for one biting comment, they don’t offer much in the way of assistance. At least part of the problem is the shots you provide. Help us by imparting a sense of scale. Looking at your photos, we have no idea how large or how small the item is. When I had a pacemaker put in, I took a photo of one and used a penny to tell viewers the size.

People know how large a penny is, so they had a good sense (;-) of the device’s size.

Secondly, get some more light on your subject. Your images are too dark, and the viewer can’t ge a good idea what you’re showing.

I hope this helps. I’m curious myself.

Yep, it was certainly a “biting” comment

Any Navy Veterans out there should recognize that as a Shoreline Extender.

For the port side, right? If memory serves me well, the bandle screw on on the starboard extender was reversed.

It's a clamp used by rabbis (mohel) to do precision circumcisions.

The best way to find out what it is for, is to throw it away. In three days, you will not only find out what it is for, but you will have to go out and buy one just like it, or the expensive thing it goes on won't work at all! (Just my experience, probably no one else's...)

My experience is only slightly different. I often find out in less than 3 days, but with things I've puzzled over for a very long time it can extend to about a month. Invariably it's cheaper to buy a used replacement of the expensive thing than to track down a replacement part. If I do hang on to the unknown bit I don't find out what it fits for many months by which time I've forgotten where I stored it...

This is IMO the most common variant of Murphy's law.

What is a nogglerod bearing!

Definitely a nogglerod bearing. I own two. The next question, of course, is which nogglerod bearing is the best: The Nikon or the Canon.

These goofy guesses are getting ridiculous. Only a couple of people have attempted to actually identify this.

99+% certain it's not either. the question is closer to Manfrotto or Giotto.

This looks like more of a Lens Tube clamp or Lighting Truss clamp than a left-handed Throgmogulator.

I figured this thing out a while ago. You can stop your comments, both humorous and real. Thanks for all your comments. You are so helpful, NOT!!!

I read four pages and still don't know what it is. This is the first time someone who is very knowledgeable on this site hasn't known the answer. I'm guessing someone threw that into a camera bag just to confuse a photographer and it actually has no photographical use whatsoever.
